Thank you to all who braved the Saturday rain to join us for “Fresh Indigo: farm to fabric,” RIEEA’s third and final workshop in our Creative Practices for Environmental Learning event series! It was an incredibly special morning of art and learning, thanks to our marvelous facilitators/textile artists Aleksandra (Sasha) Azbel and Janice Lardey. We are super grateful to the Gather Farm team in Johnston, who provided the venue for our participants to learn all about the process of dyeing cloth with freshly harvested indigo leaves. Janice and Sasha walked us through the process of harvesting leaves and creating dye, then taught patterning techniques so each participant could customize their own silk and cotton cloths. At the end, everyone celebrated with Gather Farm ice cream!

❗TIME-SENSITIVE ACTION ALERT❗ RI Recycled Materials (RIRM) has been an environmental menace in the (majority BIPOC) Washington Park neighborhood for over a decade now. Yesterday, they had ANOTHER massive fire in the Port of Providence, their 2nd in just 3 months! This is a textbook case of environmental injustice. The actions of RIRM have been widely condemned by community, legislators, the mayor, and even Gov. McKee. Tomorrow, they go to court. Let's raise our voices on the side of the people and #MakePollutersPay! Providence residents, please sign the below petition from Sen. Tiara Mack and Black Lives Matter RI to advocate for the closure of RIRM! #LetUsBreathe ❗PROVIDENCE RESIDENTS, SIGN PETITION HERE: https://lnkd.in/eENRz-P7 🗞 ProJo article: https://lnkd.in/eEZTE7pZ

Big thanks to the fantastic Joann Ayuso & Jeffrey Yoo Warren from Movement Education Outdoors (MEO) for facilitating “Microcosmos: microscopes and seeing tiny worlds”! This workshop, held last Saturday, was the second in RIEEA’s ongoing event series “Creative Practices for Environmental Learning”. Participants gathered at the Providence Resiliency Hub to explore, draw, and reimagine what we see under the microscope. Together, participants cast aside the role of clinical, removed “overseer”/observer, instead using microscopes to reflect on their unique relationships with each tiny world embedded in nature. 🌿🌺🔬 Check out more of MEO's work! https://meoutdoorsri.com/
