THIS IS Richcroft Inc - Colin's Tech Success! Colley (Colin) is a person who does not like the sound of a traditional alarm clock; I'm sure many of us can relate to that! Colley and his Personal Supports team brainstormed and came up with the idea to use smart bulbs - programmed to turn on the light to assist Colley with time management and help him work towards waking up independently. Through assisted technology, an Alexa Echo and smart bulbs were secured and Colley put his tech skills to work creating his new "alarm" clock. These photos illuminate the work he put in and also show the feeling of accomplishment when it all worked! Richcroft Update: Colley’s grandparents reported that after setting it up and learning to use the device with his PS staff, Colley woke up independently this morning! #DisabilityRightsAreHumanRights #discovertherichcroftexperience #assistivetechnology #lightbulbmoment

Last week, Richcroft Inc, held our fourth Advocacy meeting! The new Advocacy group, which meets monthly, had special guest speakers from People On The Go of Maryland, a large advocacy group formed in 1989 to affect change for people with developmental and intellectual disabilities. People On The Go of Maryland spoke to us about a variety of topics, including the history of the disability rights movement in Maryland, and also People On The Go of Maryland's history and involvement in major disability rights issues and their self-advocacy accomplishments in Maryland. Also discussed - how best to partner to receive ongoing education and technical support as we continue to develop and grow our own group, including through the Project STIR (Steps Toward Independence and Responsibility) discussion and education series. We want to especially thank Tracy (Director of Training) and James (Program Coordinator) from People On The Go of Maryland and look forward to building this ongoing partnership! Richcroft Inc's Advocacy group was created with and for individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities to learn about topics to increase our skills and confidence, as we advocate for ourselves and others. We hope to provide education and awareness to our communities, and the public at large, about our rights and our desire to be fully included as community members and leaders. We also believe it's important to build a supportive and social camaraderie amongst ourselves! If you would like to know more about Richcroft, Inc.'s Advocacy group including how you can support or join, please contact Jessie Xander at: jessiex@richcroft.org, or Karen Maddox at: karenm@richcroft.org. #DisabilityRightsAreHumanRights #discovertherichcroftexperience #advocacymatters #peopleonthego #NothingWithoutUs
