New on the blog: Marcus Burke explains why web-to-app is your best strategy to go from 0-1 with paid user acquisition as a new subscription app. In this piece, Marcus covers: 👉 Types of web-to-app flows: Understand the different strategies, from web onboarding and qualification flows to product-focused landing pages and quiz flows. 💡 The advantage of charging upfront: Learn how separating the purchase decision from your app product can streamline marketing efforts and improve conversion rates. 📈 Better signal for ad platforms: Discover how web-to-app flows provide clearer data for ad targeting and campaign optimization. 🚀 Breaking free from App Store rules: See how leading with a web page allows for creative pricing strategies and upsell opportunities that are hard to achieve with in-app purchases. Also discussed are the potential downfunnel challenges, such as scalability and the impact on your product's testing and validation processes. New on the Sub Club podcast: Francescu Santoni on how Mojo grew to over $1M in MRR. The first important lesson: Don't be afraid to pivot early on to ensure long-term success. In this episode, Francescu talks with David Barnard and Jacob Eiting about: 💪 Having the bravery to pivot. Early popularity can be deceiving. Without strong retention, it's time to pivot. Build features users love to evolve from a gimmick to a sustainable business. 🧱 Making your paywall more prominent. Show your paywall during onboarding. Then, iterate on messaging, design, and pricing, focusing on one element at a time. 💲 How pricing will always annoy someone. If no one complains, you’re underpricing. Be strategic about who you upset and how many people. 🤝 Why viral loops reduce the need for ads. Heavy ad spend can hide a lack of product-market fit. Build sharing and virality into your app first, then consider paid acquisition. 📈 Choosing complexity based on impact. Focus on your team’s strengths. Growth can be product-led or through, for example, paid acquisition, depending on what suits your team and app best. When planning or building a new feature at Welltory, VP of Strategy Asya Paloni tells us they visualize how their core segment would react to it. This core segment is affectionately referred to as “The Dude Abides,” inspired by the laid-back, easygoing character from The Big Lebowski. They visualize the Dude in different contexts. The Dude at work. The Dude on the couch. This clear, relatable image helps them ensure that the features they build resonate with the majority of their users. Not every feature has to be built for the Dude, but a clear segment has to be kept in mind. This is one step in Welltory's framework for innovation. Asya refers to innovation as a “very organized way of researching and thinking about products.” The full steps are: 1️⃣ Always align to your mission 2️⃣ Visualize the specific user you’re building for 3️⃣ Specify the triggers you’re covering 4️⃣ Know what job is to be done for the user This practical framework turns innovation from a spontaneous spark into a repeatable process. Innovation isn't accidental, it's designed. And think about who is *your* Dude. 🔗 Find the full blog, covering all steps of the framework, in the comments 👇 #innovation #subscriptionapps #productstrategy
