A global health organization that aims to save 100 million lives from cardiovascular disease and prevent epidemics.

About us

Our mission is to save 100 million lives from cardiovascular disease and to prevent epidemics. Resolve to Save Lives helps governments and civil society implement scalable, proven strategies to prevent millions of deaths from cardiovascular disease and epidemics. We focus on accelerating action in low- and middle-income countries through speed, simplicity, and scale. In our first four years, we have worked with countries to help protect millions of people from exposure to artificial trans fat, we've partnered with countries that are treating more than 2 million patients for high blood pressure (also known as hypertension), and have supported more than 20 countries in Africa to improve epidemic preparedness and response.

When Neethling disease (Lumpy Skin Disease Virus) struck Cambodia in 2021, it posed a serious threat to cattle populations. Our quick and coordinated response with WWF-Cambodia, including a targeted vaccination campaign led by forest rangers and veterinarians, successfully prevented the spread to wild species like the endangered banteng and vulnerable gaur.   Learn more in Resolve To Save Lives' latest report: https://lnkd.in/eWkwna5X

During the past five years, the world has made major progress toward elimination of trans fat—but we're not there yet. According to a new milestone report from the World Health Organization, best practice policies were in effect in 53 countries by the end of 2023, covering 3.7 billion people or 46% of the world's population. That's compared to just 6% when the #REPLACEtransfat initiative was launched in 2018. Achieving global elimination of this toxic food additive, and replacing it with healthier oils, is within reach. https://lnkd.in/gXxJB3Md

Catherine Barker Cantelmo from our team participated in a discussion on domestic financing at the Global Health Security Conference in Sydney. In her remarks, Cathy championed domestic financing as a critical component of effective preparedness and response efforts and shared some of the innovative approaches to domestic financing we’ve been exploring with our in-country partners. Key takeaway? “Countries need to define their own domestic financing goals and tailor advocacy and implementation strategies to their context.” #GHS2024

Our Director of Epidemic Intelligence, Dr. Chris Lee, delivered a talk at the Global Health Security Conference entitled "Prototyping Collaborative Surveillance", in which he outlined lessons from our implementation work in Ethiopia, Mozambique and Zambia. Specifically, Chris talked about "sprinting for change management"—adapting processing and learning from design thinking and systems thinking to create prototypes that address decision-making needs. In his own words: "We need a new approach".

Today, our very own Rabi Usman delivered remarks at the Global Health Security Conference in Sydney on a panel exploring the impacts of climate change on health security in Africa, along with other experts from Nigeria Health Watch and UK Health Security Agency. Rabi's presentation shared our team's experiences linking climate change to preparedness and early action in Uganda and Nigeria through an early-warning approach called Enhanced Situational Awareness, or ESA, which Resolve to Save Lives is using with its partners to monitor and respond to indicators that suggest an increased risk of an outbreak before a first case has been found. You can read more about how the approach was used by Uganda to detect and respond to an outbreak of anthrax here: https://lnkd.in/gaCsKBYY

At the Global Health Security Conference in Sydney, our team hosted an event to launch our new Epidemics That Didn't Happen report—highlighting outbreaks that were successfully stopped before they became health emergencies. Thank you to all speakers and attendees! Stories of epidemics prevented don't often make headlines. Senior Vice President, Prevent Epidemics at Resolve To Save Lives

Today, we celebrated the launch of our Epidemics That Didn't Happen report with a packed room of 100+ engaged delegates at the Global Health Security Conference in Sydney. Joining me on the stage were some of the "Avengers of Health Security", who each related their professional experiences to some of the key themes that emerged in this year's report: —Health systems need to listen. The most effective health systems are sensitive to the needs of the local communities they serve. —*People* prevent epidemics. Behind every epidemic that didn’t happen are human beings who helped find, report or respond to warning signs. —Timeliness is key. Outbreaks stop sooner and do less damage when people act quickly to detect, report and respond to the first signs of a potential threat. —Climate change is exacerbating risks. Many outbreaks featured in the report were linked with severe weather events that are expected to become more common. Huge thank you to each of our speakers for sharing your expertise, to the report's contributors for allowing us to include your stories, and to everyone on my team at Resolve to Save Lives who brought this report to fruition. I encourage you to read Epidemics That Didn't Happen and hope you find it instructive and engaging. And, of course, do share it with others you think will find it interesting! https://lnkd.in/ea4XgZEc
