Our team had the privilege of hosting not one, but two fantastic events for #NYTW. The second of which was a one-of-a-kind dining experience at Greywind Restaurant and Bakery in partnership with Remotely.works and Atlas, a Hunt Club Company featuring our portfolio company, meez, and founder Joshua Sharkey with some of his team Maria F. Mackie, Marylee Rosenwald, and Daniel Roestorf. Thank you to all those who were able to join us, Harish Mukhami, Josh Mancher, Sam Giber, Taylor Brandt, Varun Sridhar, and Vinny Pujji for making the evening so remarkable. As always, we are so thankful for incredible ecosystem partners - Cammy Keiler, Vince Panozzo, and Pau Suris/Remotely.works. The ways in which you all come alongside founders in their journey makes all the difference. Lastly, we loved having a number of our Struck Capital team members (Adam B. Struck, Sam N. Adams, David Yoo, and Jason Tahir, and Michael Montero) together for the evening to wrap up the week's festivities.

After recent discussions with leadership teams at tech companies, it's clear that many US-based software businesses continue to prioritize cost efficiency and engineering performance. If you're looking to follow this approach, consider the equation: An American software engineer earning $200k annually would only cost approximately $80k if based in Latin America. The potential savings go beyond just base compensation. Within three years, a US-based engineering role will accrue one-time fees of $60-80k and increased operational costs of $360-450k.For small teams consisting of 5-10 individuals, this approach can save millions when managed effectively. Our organization specializes in overcoming the unique challenges of managing remote engineering teams, possessing the necessary expertise to assist you in building and maintaining exceptional engineering teams anywhere in the world. ——— Here’s a breakdown of the math: 👨💻 Ongoing operating costs: in general, you can expect a 2-3x reduction in compensation for talent in Latin America (our salary guide gives a more granular view of compensation at different seniority levels). Contractor relationships (as opposed to employee relationships), provide additional savings in terms of payroll taxes. We’re advocates of contractor relationships in Latin America (via our Remotely model). – Assuming an annual salary difference of $200k vs $80k for the same talent profile, you are looking at $10k per month in salary alone via Remotely. More when you consider payroll taxes, health insurance and other overhead costs. 🔎 Recruiting costs: recruiters charge in the vicinity of 15-20% of base salary, so you’re looking at a $30-40k one-off expense with a technical recruiter in the US. The technical recruiter is incentivized to keep the developer retained through their 3-6 month guarantee but then welcomes the opportunity to place the developer elsewhere (to earn another fee). –With Remotely’s model, there’s no recruiter fee, giving you $30-40k in savings. 🤝 Retention costs (or lack of thereof): having built and operated teams in US, UK, and Latam, we’ve seen consistently higher loyalty and employee engagement in Latam than in the US (or UK). Retaining US developers is harder, and churn is higher–and replacement costs are more frequent. To retain your team size, you’ll need to hire more developers in the US than in Latam in order to make up for the attrition. "Firms keep expanding their labor markets to recruit the best talent."

Stanford Professor | LinkedIn Top Voice In Remote Work | Co-Founder wfhresearch.com | Speaker on work from home

New research study in the New York Times showing the hiring benefits to firms from WFH. We examined Gusto payroll data on the home and work address of employees in 1000s of firms from 2018 onwards, finding: 1) In 2019 firms hired employees living on average 10 miles from work. By 2023 new hires live about 35 miles from work (figure below). This is a 10x increase in the area they are hiring from (note area of a hiring circle = Pi*radius^2). 2) The rise has been strongest in tech, financial and business services. These industries see 100 fold increases in hiring circles, effectively going from local to regional/national. 3) The hiring distance has jumped most for employees in their 30s and 40s. Firms are now offering hybrid and remote options to source the best middle and senior managers. 4) The distance for employees to work continues to rise through the end of 2023 as firms keep expanding their labor markets to recruit the best talent. This evolution of hiring is not over yet :-) Report: https://bit.ly/4a2LOxL NYT Piece: https://lnkd.in/gtaekqn9

From feverish growth obsession to a newfound reverence for capital efficiency and robust profit margin, tech companies are navigating a pretty seismic shift. We sat down with Nirvana's CTO and Co-founder, Urvish Parikh, to talk about how they hit their (ambitious) goals by finding focus, building feedback loops, and employing a strategy of sequencing. Read the full story ⤵ ----- ➡ A New Equilibrium: 2023 proved to be more stable for private markets, with fewer deals and fewer dollars. Following the 2021 bull market and extreme volatility in 2022—we seem to have reached this new equilibrium. ⏰ Longer Runways: The median time between funding rounds has been rising over the past two years across all stages, Q4 2023 closed with an average of 27 months (Seed to A), 30 months (A to B), and 28.6 months (B to C).
