Here at Red Wing Shoe Company, we were thrilled to host the Growing GRASS project kickoff, a USDA Partnerships for Climate Smart Commodities, at our Red Wing, MN facilities this spring. This visit marked the beginning of an exciting collaboration aimed at enhancing the value of regeneratively grazed beef and bison for producers, people, and the planet. The Growing GRASS project adds value to regeneratively raised livestock byproducts, which our tannery transforms into leather. This collaboration boosts supply chain profitability and encourages more farmers to adopt regenerative practices. During their visit to Red Wing, MN, we toured our tannery S.B Foot, and our footwear manufacturing plant. We rounded out the day with a tour of a local farm using regenerative practices, and meat processing facility. It was an incredible start to a promising partnership. This Earth Day, we reflect on our lasting impact on the planet and places we work and live by underscoring our commitment to global service and local impact.  Jason Jech, Executive Director of the Environmental Learning Center in Red Wing commends one volunteer group’s efforts: “Their impact in just one day is nothing short of miraculous. Red Wing boots are put together with traditional construction techniques that transform premium materials into supremely durable boots and shoes. It takes skilled craftsmanship and expertise of the assembly process to achieve such consistently superior quality. While technology has improved over time, the techniques and skills it takes to build our boots still pulls strongly from the past. To precisely form the shape of our footwear, the leather is pulled over a foot-shaped object called a last. The shape of the last varies depending on footwear style.
