Stolen credentials could unmask thousands of darknet child abuse website users | Reported by: Alexander Martin Researchers have developed a proof-of-concept method to unmask thousands of anonymous individuals using darknet sites for circulating child sexual abuse material (CSAM). They utilized infostealer malware logs, usually exploited by financial fraudsters. These logs contain credentials for a variety of services, linking anonymous CSAM users to clear web platforms where they use their real identities. This could potentially allow law enforcement to identify offenders and protect at-risk children.

In this proof-of-concept report, Insikt Group used Recorded Future Identity Intelligence to analyze infostealer malware data to identify consumers of child sexual abuse material (CSAM): https://lnkd.in/e5MgRYpb Approximately 3,300 unique users were found with accounts on known CSAM sources with 4.2% having credentials for multiple sources, indicating a higher likelihood of criminal behavior. The study reveals how infostealer logs can aid investigators in tracking CSAM activities on the dark web. We have escalated our findings to the appropriate authorities for further action.

The 2024 French elections are drawing near, and Insikt Group has identified ongoing influence operations linked to Russia and Iran. These foreign actors are attempting to shape public opinion and voter behavior, although their impact remains minimal so far. The Russia-linked Doppelgänger network uses cloned websites and social media bots to promote pro-Russian content, while CopyCop leverages AI to disseminate pro-Russia narratives. Iran’s involvement is limited but focused on amplifying negative narratives about France due to its support for Israel. Read the full report for more insights and mitigations: https://lnkd.in/ek-Whs3X
