About us
Rebuilding Together Montgomery County (RTMC) opened its doors in 1990 and, over the past 33 years, has worked to provide free critical home repairs, energy efficiency upgrades and accessibility modifications for Montgomery County’s most vulnerable residents – seniors, veterans, persons with disabilities and families with children, all living in low-income households. Demographically, our clients come from diverse backgrounds and represent the elderly, disabled, and working poor populations of Montgomery County. The average annual income of our recipient families is $21,779, an income level that is never enough to cover all of life’s expenses. For almost all of them, once food, transportation, and medical care is covered (assuming they are able to cover all of those expenses), there is not enough left over for home maintenance or repair. For them, catastrophic home repair costs would mean not only the mental anguish of losing their home, but also the real possibility of having no place else to turn for shelter. RTMC works in partnership with state and local governments, community volunteers, and corporate and nonprofit partners to provide our client families with the repairs and upgrades they need to remain safely and securely in their homes. The repairs and links to community resources we offer not only prevent homelessness for our clients, but also preserve affordable housing in an area where it is scarce and provide safe and independent living for our county's most vulnerable residents.

We are so lucky to be a part of an amazing community that helped make this possible. Thank you to all our amazing supporters and a huge shout out to the RTMC team who worked tirelessly to ensure our neighbors are safer and healthy in their homes. We are very excited to announce another important addition to our RTMC Board of Directors, Dr. Chantal Vilmar! Since 2004, Dr. Vilmar has been a member of the Montgomery College community, as full-time interior design professor, then interior design program coordinator and professor, department chair, and most recently interim-dean of Applied Technologies and the Gudelsky Institute for Technical Education on the Rockville Campus. She has worked closely with her predecessor to implement several initiatives to address workforce needs in Montgomery County, including a grant which is intended to partially fund lab equipment and provide academic support and coaching for students, develop a pipeline for industry workforce, and provide industry access for underrepresented minorities. Dr. Vilmar also works in conjunction with department faculty on interdisciplinary projects and student design competitions. In addition, Dr. Vilmar worked closely with faculty to host a construction industry forum. The forum was a gathering of industry partners, employers, thought leaders, faculty, and professional organization representatives for a discussion on the construction industry’s future workforce. Before coming to Montgomery College, Dr. Vilmar served as department chair at Bauder College in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Vilmar earned a bachelor of arts in interior design from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, a master of science in education from Bankstreet College of Education in New York, and a doctor of education in Community College Leadership from Morgan State University in Maryland. RTMC is thrilled to have you join us and we cannot wait to see what amazing impact we will have together. Welcome, Chantal!
