"This experience has been eye opening." As a volunteer with his local rescue squad, our intern Noah is no stranger to the unfortunate living conditions some of our neighbors find themselves in. However, after joining our team he was stunned to learn more about the harsh financial realities of those we serve at Rappahannock United Way. On Virginia Intern Day, we want to thank Noah for sharing his light and bringing his positivity and fresh perspective to help bring hope and optimism to those inside and outside our organization. He is the epitome of an ideal intern, taking on every task with professionalism and poise. We celebrated Noah's hard work and all the other interns yesterday at the Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce's 'We Mean Business' breakfast. Shout out to all the interns across the Commonwealth for helping to make our state the best place for business - and nonprofits! #RappahannockUnitedWay #VirginiaInternDay #NonprofitIntern

About us
Rappahannock United Way is a local nonprofit organization serving the city of Fredericksburg and the counties of Caroline, King George, Spotsylvania, and Stafford. Our mission is to improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of our community. Rappahannock United Way works hard to build a community that is hopeful, resilient, and self-sufficient through programs in Education, Financial Stability, and Healthy Living. These are the building blocks for a good quality of life - a quality education leads to a stable job, enough income leads to a financially stable family, and a community of healthy living leads to a healthy life. We strive to create long-lasting change that prevents problems from arising in the first place. We invite our community to be part of the change. BE THERE for our community alongside Rappahannock United Way as we continue to Respond, Recover, Reimagine, Rebuild. www.rappahannockunitedway.org Facebook: /rappahannockunitedway Twitter: @rappunitedway Instagram: @unitedwayrapp

Lifelong learning will lead to a long, happy life. 💡 ✨ We are inspired by the women who committed to taking the first step in achieving economic freedom and stability by attending our Prosper Mentoring kickoff last night! Special thanks go to our Women United committee Chairwoman, Carley Swaim Walker for delivering a deeply moving speech to the group and committee members, Beth Williams, CPC, and Alicia Turner for joining in support of the mentees. We look forward to watching the growth of these hard working women throughout the 12-month program. #RappahannockUnitedWay #ProsperMentoring #nonprofitprogram #RUW #liveunited

"A family of four in Stafford County, where costs are among the highest in the state, needs an annual income of $118,764 to cover basic expenses. " Thank you, Cathy Dyson and The Free Lance-Star for reporting on the latest data we released with United for ALICE revealing nearly 40% of households in our region are barely making ends meet. Prosper Mentoring, our new initiative designed to help working women achieve financial freedom, is helping to combat struggling households and take families from surviving to thriving. #rappahannockunitedway #freelancestar #financialfreedom #communityresource #nonprofitprogramming

This past Spring, we celebrated the graduation of our inaugural Prosper Mentoring class. As we prepare for our next cohort beginning, July 17th, we're calling on our our community to help recruit applicants for the next cohort of Prosper Mentoring. Local women, who are currently part of the workforce and who could use support as they navigate life’s obstacles to reach their true potential, are encouraged to apply. Listen to our recent interview on Ted Schubel's Town Talk program to learn more about Prosper Mentoring and the impact it is making on growth-minded women in our community>https://lnkd.in/e4gQmSbd #rappahannockunitedway #prospermentoring #finanicalstability #lifeskills #femaleempowerment

Per #UnitedForALICE’s new data, the number of struggling families in Virginia grew from 2021 to 2022 despite bigger paychecks. Why? As wages went up, so too did costs – making it nearly impossible for ALICE to keep pace. For a family of four with an infant and a preschooler, the costs of basics in Virginia, without tax credits, rose from $84,792 in 2021 to $103,236 #oneyearlater. Compounding the issue in 2022 was the loss of up to $15,000 in federal child tax credits and stimulus payments that this family had access to in 2021.
