QuesTek Innovations has launched a partnership with CBMM, the world’s leading producer of Niobium. The partnership will push the boundaries of materials engineering and open a new frontier of capabilities through the expanded use of Niobium. QuesTek will explore material compositions leveraging Niobium to achieve high strength and heat resistance in novel alloys suitable for additive manufacturing. Using its ICMD® materials design and engineering platform (https://lnkd.in/g-BN6v9x), QuesTek can explore the addition of Niobium to a wide array of alloys as well as how current Niobium alloys can be optimized. This week our Marketing Intern Bayan Kataf had the opportunity to travel to our headquarters in Evanston, IL to meet and interact with our team. QuesTek designed, produced, qualified, and placed the certified products, made of QuesTek’s proprietary Ferrium® M54 alloy, into flight operations on the Navy’s T-45 trainer aircraft, in 1/3 of the time of a typical design-to-flight cycle (in ~7 years vs typically 20 years). The hardness and toughness of the new gear enabled more than two times more landings on the platform, saving millions in maintenance costs and preventing numerous accidents, loss of aircraft (a T-45 costs $17.2M each), and injury or loss of young aviators.
