We are thrilled to share that Keseb will be hosting and moderating an exciting and timely series of conversations throughout the course of the 2024 mega election year, where more than 4 billion global citizens will head to the polls to exercise their democratic right to vote. The series will create a virtual space for an exchange of ideas across borders, building a transnational platform to discuss the aspects of democracy at stake in the elections taking place this year. Our inaugural discussion on January 30th will delve into the intersection of race, civic identity, and self-expression. As we head into the mega election year of 2024, where over 2 Billion people will vote, we at Keseb are supporting some of the leading democracy entrepreneurs and their organizations from Brazil, South Africa, and the United States. Last week, we hosted an intensive multi-day retreat for the inaugural cohort of 12 Keseb Democracy Fellows. Selected from a pool of over 300, the Fellows lead innovative and impactful pro-democracy organizations that address the threats of authoritarianism as well as promote effective and inclusive political and civic participation in their respective contexts. Throughout human history, stories have served as a means of disseminating culture, values, beliefs, and societal norms. When a community loses control over its narrative, it loses the ability to transmit its core principles. When those in power dictate the narratives, marginalized groups find themselves unable to shape their culture and live life on their own terms. The remedy lies in reclaiming authority over our narratives—both in their creation and dissemination. This paves the way for a community to authentically understand itself and lead life on its own terms. I am grateful for the opportunity to moderate the panel titled "Inspiring Change Through Storytelling & Culture," presented by Doritos Solid Black during the 2023 REVOLT World event. I extend special thanks to my brother Detavio Samuels and the REVOLT team for partnering with PushBlack and providing a platform for us to engage in this vital conversation with Black change-makers from the fields of film, fashion, technology, culture, and media at REVOLT World this weekend.
