Life is to be lived in community. My recent trip to Atlanta for the Consortium Graduate Study in Management (CGSM) Conference reminded me of how blessed I am to have relationships with people and institutions that stand the test of time. Several special moments included reconnecting with my Michigan Ross CGSM family, learning from distinguished panelists, and embracing the power and awesomeness of the broader CGSM alumni network (which encompasses alumni from 24 top MBA programs). Big shout out to Rashid Farrell, CGSM Board of Trustee Alumni Representative, for leading a well-attended, engaging Alumni program during a significant water outage. A little background...Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, is a day dedicated to commemorating the liberation of enslaved African American people in the United States. On January 1, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation, declaring that enslaved people in the Confederate states were freed from slavery. However, it took two more years for the enslaved people of Galveston, Texas to learn about their freedom when Union General Gordon Granger read General Order No. 3 on June 19, 1865. This event marked a crucial moment in American history, symbolizing the end of slavery and the beginning of freedom for millions. Today serves as a waypoint to celebrate progress, reflect on our collective learning, and recommit to making the world more equitable each day.
