Our environmental field staff are back at it, sharing some of their on-the-job adventures in our “From the Trenches” video series. With a nod to our environmental newsletter, Currents, and its namesake article, we share the fun, personal side of POWER. In this latest video, Biologist Amanda Seitz takes us on a wetland delineation in a South Carolina cypress swamp and explains the importance of understanding local vegetation to safely navigate wetlands. Today, we want to shine the spotlight on Jared Driggers, who has been a standout member since 2019! Jared started his career at POWER as a Project Lead and Electrical Controls Designer and quickly transitioned into a more managerial role as a Senior Project Lead and Area Lead within POWER Delivery's BIM Substation Department. Working at POWER has been fundamentally different from anywhere else he's worked. "The biggest thing that POWER inspires is that the opportunities to grow within the company are not limited to your formal education. It's really driven by your skillset and mindset to do better. They give people a unique opportunity to grow their careers outside of their box, more than any other company I've seen within the industry. " With over 15 years in the utility sector, Jared has emerged as an industry expert. He also serves as the Business Strategy Committee Co-Chair for the Substation Design Solutions Industry Consortium (SDSIC). For those unfamiliar, the SDSIC comprises member utilities and contract design firms eager to adopt new technologies and workflows to improve utility projects' design, engineering, and maintenance. Jared loves tackling complex, innovative projects and is excited about the direction POWER is heading. One notable project was helping create a virtual sandbox—a dynamic platform for testing and demonstrating proof of concept designs, enabling real-time modifications to avoid clashes and engineering errors. This capability to test and modify designs before construction has the potential to save clients thousands, if not millions, of dollars. "The sandbox allowed us to show clients calculations and 3-D modeling in real time, showing clashing and engineering errors that could arise before we send it out for conceptual and building. We can leverage these things to preemptively address possible challenges and develop the best attainable, timely, and cost-effective solution to upgrade our clients' substation design and protection."

Recently, our Denver office teamed up with The Park People, a nonprofit dedicated to collaborating with communities to plant trees and enhance parks for a healthier and better future. We had an amazing tree-planting event at Rocky Mountain Prep, where we planted 15 trees that will greatly benefit the school grounds, students, and community members. 🌳 🌱 Benefits of Our Tree Planting: - Reduced Urban Heat Island Effect: Trees provide evaporative cooling and reduce the sunlight reaching parking lots and buildings. - Improved Air Quality: Trees filter harmful dust and pollutants such as ozone, carbon monoxide, and sulfur dioxide from our air. - Economic Benefits: Reduced energy demand on infrastructure leads to lower operating costs, which can be passed on to the consumer. - Enhanced Aesthetics: Trees complement the architecture and design of buildings and neighborhoods. Thank you to everyone who participated and made this event a huge success! ♻️
