Last week, we hosted our first Equipment Rodeo at our corporate office, bringing together our 2024 interns and the entire corporate team for a hands-on experience of our field operations. The event featured various interactive stations that gave participants a taste of life in the field. Attendees had the opportunity to operate mini excavators, enjoy rides in our bucket trucks, and engage in general gas activities. They also learned about the basics of electricity and gained insights into the typical experiences of our crews on an average workday. This immersive event not only provided valuable learning opportunities but also fostered a deeper appreciation for the crucial work our field teams perform daily. It was inspiring to see our corporate staff and interns enthusiastically embracing these experiences, bridging the gap between office and field operations. To cap off the day, we threw a big BBQ, creating a relaxed atmosphere for everyone to connect and share their experiences. The Equipment Rodeo was a resounding success, filled with laughter, learning, and team building. Events like these reinforce our commitment to investing in our people, by deepening their understanding and appreciation for every aspect of our business. They remind us of the importance of the work we do and the dedicated individuals who make it all possible. To safeguard avian life, Puget Sound Energy employs specialized tools and techniques. One notable initiative involves the construction of osprey nest platforms, providing safe alternatives for these birds to nest away from power poles. Additionally, we've helped PSE install thousands of bushing covers and wire guards to prevent bird electrocutions and collisions, reducing power outages and protecting wildlife.

June is Men's Mental Health Awareness Month. With the stigma surrounding men's mental health issues, this month is key for visibility and spreading awareness. The construction industry faces a critical mental health challenge. A 2020 survey revealed that 14.3% of construction workers struggled with anxiety and nearly 6% with depression, based on symptoms or medication use. Even more alarming, a 2020 CDC report ranked the construction industry as having the second-highest suicide rate among all major U.S. industries. We're committed to breaking the stigma around mental health and providing support to our team. Check out the poster we created for our bases with QR codes linking directly to mental health resources. The operation, involving helicopters to extract a decades-old pole from the middle of a retention pond in Bremerton, showcased the ingenuity and expertise of all parties involved.
