Last week I had the incredible opportunity to attend the 2024 Girls Build Solutions Conference in San Diego, California as the Maryland Representative for Million Girls Moonshot! On the first day, I had the privilege of giving opening remarks to the flight crew, sponsors, and state representatives at the dinner event. This was a time to speak about my STEM journey during high school, my accomplishments, and my experience as the Maryland Representative for Million Girls Moonshot. It was an amazing experience where there were days of networking, speakers from various STEM companies, and an opportunity to learn more about the 50 flight crew members. I also built connections with inspiring individuals from organizations and companies such as the STEM Next Opportunity Fund, Johnson & Johnson, Qualcomm, Lockheed Martin, NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Illumina, Play Like a Girl!®, Boeing, the U.S. Department of Education and more. #GirlsBuildSolutions was an experience I will remember and cherish forever. I am grateful to have met individuals who are making an impact in their community through STEM. I was also thrilled to meet Nigerian Engineer, Bunmi E., and learn about her impact in advocating for STEM education. I would like to thank Ellie Mitchell from the Maryland Out of School Time Network for informing me about Million Girls Moonshot and working with me for the last few months. Special thanks to Elizabeth (Billy) Bannan and Leah Silverberg from the STEM Next Opportunity Fund for making this event memorable for the girls who represent the flight crew. Year four in the books with Tight End University (TEU)! I was honored to take part in such an impactful event where we hosted newly sanctioned girls flag football teams from the Nashville area with our friends at Play Like a Girl!® One of the highlights for me was discussing the invaluable skills that young girls gain through flag football on and off the field. Beyond the game itself, these athletes develop leadership, teamwork, and confidence that will serve them well throughout their lives. I am inspired by the dedication of everyone involved and so proud to work for a company like Bridgestone Americas who is committed to making sports more accessible today and for future generations to come. In San Diego for the Girls Build Solutions Conference celebrating the success of the #MillionGirlsMoonshot, honoring the MGM Flight Crew, learning from other state OST networks, and planning for the future. We had a wonderful time getting to know our Ohio Flight Crew member, Max, and have big plans to collaborate with her to inspire girls to engage in STEM in our state. We heard from so many amazing women, including Kari Byron from Mythbusters and Co-Director of the National STEM Festival, Dr. Kimberly Clay, founder of Play Like a Girl!®, and Ramya Shankaran, Head of Engineering of Autonomous Driving Data Platform at Qualcomm.
