Have you heard of engineering rituals? 🤔What about the following? ⚡$100 voting ⚡V2MOM ⚡OKRs ⚡6-pager docs ⚡Sentiment Checks ⚡Catalyst meetings I was aware of some of these but then last week met with a bunch of software engineering leaders at #PlatoElevate and learnt much more deeper best practices from some of silicon valley's iconic and unicorn companies. 🚀The best part? Coda and Plato have joined hands to codify these & introduce an operating system(OS) for engineering just like all computers have an OS. It's called "EngOS", outlining rituals for each SDLC phase to bring structure. It guides decision-making, communications work processes, and collaboration. 🎉Great job Jean-Baptiste Coger Quang HOANG Poya Osgouei in putting together such an impactful event! As a second time participant, you exceeded my expectations and your team hit it out of the ballpark! 👍 🤝 Wonderful meeting Shishir Mehrotra, Sushma (Sue) Nallapeta Anu Gardiner and a host of other leaders & accomplished professionals including several ASEI (American Society of Engineers of Indian Origin) members Agas Somasundaram Amruta Moktali and more 🙏Three Calls to Action (CTAs): 🌟Enjoy the snippet video collage from this event.... Pls tag /comment if we met there last week. 🌟Also if I missed meeting you, do share your impressions from the conference ....I always get deeper insights from diverse perspectives! 🌟 Follow me here if you like my musings and hit subscribe 🔔. "I'm so tired of going to technology conferences and just talking about technology. Let's talk about the stuff that really matters!" ~ real life quote from an engineering leader at Plato Elevate this week. 😀 Still buzzing from all the incredible content and connections I made at this jam-packed 2-day conference of keynotes, roundtables and workshops. There was a ton of variety, but also a lot of common themes. A focus on creating systems, rituals, and frameworks to support team well-being, productivity and flow. How to communicate more effectively to prioritize what matters and enable better decision-making. And lots of discussion on how companies are leveraging AI through experimentation and learning. Thank you Bonnie Brieden, Quang HOANG, Jean-Baptiste Coger and everyone at Plato for organizing a conference unlike any other. Looking forward to the next one! #PlatoElevate #EngineeringLeadership #Mentorship

Engineering Leader Specialized in Efficiency Optimization & Enabling Productivity to Enhance Performance & Growth

Roundtables are one of my favorites in a conference because they create an opportunity to both learn and contribute. Hosted a great discussion at Plato Elevate 2024 with Siraj Memon Patryk Domoracki Chethana Gopinath Victoria Lo Reeba Benzialex Ramya G Raghavendra Nyamagoudar (L to R in the picture below) on the topic of Mindset & Rituals towards greater productivity. We explored adapting to different work environments, balancing remote and in-person settings. We emphasized self-care and family time, learning to say no to avoid burnout. Strategies included blocking calendars, giving and receiving feedback, and prioritizing personal goals. Regular reflection, meditation, and finding "me" time were highlighted for maintaining productivity and well-being. #PlatoElevate #selfcare #productivity

Our Principal Architect, Elaine David, recently hosted a workshop at #PlatoElevate. Check out her recap below—her reflections on high-quality #CarbonCredits, the the increasing role of AI/ML in processes, including decarbonization, and steps towards #DEI in #tech, are worth a read. May the women's restroom line continue to grow at tech conferences everywhere! Plato Elevate (June 5th & 6th, San Francisco)

    Principal Engineer / Architect

I had a fantastic time hosting a workshop at #PlatoElevate on how we balance agility and scientific rigor at Carbon Direct. Some reflections, observations and random anecdotes: I had folks who were super curious about high-quality carbon credits.  One commented that he thought that all carbon credits are created equal, so it was a bit of an "aha!" moment. I hope it continues to spark curiosity and engagement with regards to the complexities of the decarbonization journey for organizations of all types and sizes. AI/ML was touched upon a lot, both in keynotes and workshops. What's been particularly insightful is the common thread for needing "human-in-the-loop" reviews in different use cases. While ML has the potential to automate a lot of classification tasks, sometimes human expertise is still needed to ensure that accuracy targets are being met appropriately. While in line to use the restroom, I chatted with someone who commented that it was great to actually have a line for the women's restroom at a tech conference. We certainly have a ways to go toward achieving the goals of DEI, but at this conference, it definitely felt like a step in the right direction. (Thanks to Teresa de Figueiredo for taking this picture and for being an amazing moderator and collaborator!)

I had an incredible experience at #PlatoElevate, the No-BS conference for engineering leaders. The event featured an outstanding lineup of speakers and provided great networking opportunities. It was wonderful to meet several SheTo members in person. Also bumped into past colleagues, I hadn’t seen in over five years. Sabrina Farmer, CTO at GitLab's session on "Harnessing AI to Scale Software Innovation and Improve Productivity" was insightful, emphasizing both the challenges and tremendous potential AI holds for enhancing engineering excellence. The keynote by Farhang Kassaei, CTO, Google Store, "You Are in the Communication Business" was another highlight. His insights on communication frameworks transitioning from reactive, unstructured communication to a proactive, structured approach and the importance of practicing emotional regulation techniques for effective communication were invaluable. The workshops and roundtables were equally enriching, offering a chance to exchange perspectives and learn from peer engineering leaders. #PlatoElevate #Networking #EngineeringLeadership

CEO of EventSponsors.co + CEO of Modern GTM + Host of Uncharted Podcast

This past few days I got to hang out with an old CEO and my first startup CEO, Vivek and the HackerRank crew. And HackerRank's had it's fair share of highs and lows but one of the things I admire a ton about Vivek is his relentless dedication and all these years later, still staying close to the customer. I remember in the earliest days of HackerRank, he had his co-founder, Harishankaran K build a system to alert them should one of our top customers need support so it could ping his phone after a certain amount of minutes and he would respond immediately. And another time, we had a large financial bank that wanted to leave for a much more affordable product, he was so committed to retaining the business, we flew to New York the next day to visit their team, in-person -- and nailed the meeting and not only retained the business but extended it into a multi year agreement. Working with him in the weeks leading up to #PlatoElevate reminded me of a crucial trait founders should keep: even as the business grows, they should always stay connected to the customers and sales.

    Embedded Systems Software Engineer

This past week, I had the opportunity to attend Plato Elevate (June 5th & 6th, San Francisco), where I learned more about how Engineering Managers can scale effectively. I attended multiple keynotes, gaining valuable insights into how decisions made at the managerial level lead to engineering teams performing consistently and providing value to the enterprise. Engaging discussions included topics such as saving business dollars by leveraging SaaS infrastructure and emphasizing the savings found in utilizing elastic compute, led by Maria Zhang CEO of Proactive AI Lab. Another session, led by Rukmini Reddy SVP of Engineering at Slack, focused on how maintaining transparency in company re-orgs helps shape company culture and keeps retention rates high. Thank you, Poya Osgouei, for inviting us to the #PlatoElevatePlato event, and my manager, Anu Ramanathan for continuing to provide helpful opportunities to learn. Last but not least, I want to thank everyone I had the opportunity to meet. Although I was probably the most junior developer to attend, everyone was happy to share advice and experiences gained throughout their careers, which I will carry with me going forward.
