Community is at the core of everything we do, so we were so excited to actually get into the community and support our neighbors. What a wonderful experience at Thrive DC serving a hot meal to over 100 people. Looking forward to more team outings that serve our community.

URGENT 🚨 ALERT As the House Farm Bill hearing approaches tomorrow, the U.S. #hemp industry is under its sharpest attack since the 2018 Farm Bill legalized our crop. We need your help NOW to defeat it. An amendment to the Farm Bill has been offered that would federally ban all ingestible hemp products with any level of THC. This amendment from Rep. Mary Miller (R-IL) would not only ban potentially impairing products like Delta-8, but it would bring under a new prohibition all non-intoxicating CBD products with any quantifiable amount of THC – meaning 90-95% of the hemp products market would be federally banned. Even animal feed – which has been approved by FDA for these uses – would be banned. Redefining hemp to include a calculation of THC-A would even wreak havoc in the fiber and grain market. The Mary Miller amendment – built on proposals offered by monopoly-seeking marijuana companies – can be read at the link below. We need YOUR help NOW to defeat this cynical effort to destroy the U.S. hemp industry for anti-competitive reasons. The vote on the Mary Miller amendment will take place tomorrow 5/22 after 11 AM, so we have less than 24 hours to let Congress understand the destructive nature of this effort. Please send an urgent message to your Representative urging him or her to oppose this hemp farmer-killing amendment. And please share this notice widely to your friends, business associates, customers, and social media contacts. We need to flood Capitol Hill now before it is too late!

We had the opportunity yesterday to share our story and our perspective on recent local legislation impacting cannabis access in the District with Katie Barlow and FOX 5 DC. Our mission is and has always been to destigmatize cannabis by doing the right thing. We always third-party lab test, accurately label, and 21+ age restrict all of our products. This new legislation not only heightens stigmas around the plant, but it makes it less accessible in DC. We support medical cannabis, but it should not be the only option for DC residents. Visit www.saveDChemp.com to learn more and take action.

We're standing up and fighting for hemp here in Washington, DC. It's been a busy few weeks working with attorneys and lobbyists, reaching out to our community, and advocating for the liberties we believe in. Yesterday, we had a significant opportunity to share our message with FOX 5 DC. This wouldn't have been possible without the unwavering support and active participation of our community and the efforts put forward by Kaitlin Murphy. Our focus is driven by consumer safety (education, testing, labeling, packaging), which the industry's sibling rivalry continues to use as a red herring. I'm very proud to be part of a tribe that advocates for the continued push to deschedule the plant in all its forms. From industrial hurds and fibers to medicinal cannabinoids to new innovative developments across multiple sectors. We have so much potential to change the world for the better if we continue to look towards the future instead of infighting as an industry. I'm very grateful to everyone working towards change, having hard conversations here on LinkedIn, supporting others, and giving time and energy to fuel progress. #hemp #washingtondc #consumersafety #advocacy #policy #legislation #progress

Even in one of the most liberal cities like Washington, D.C., cannabis is misunderstood. Recent emergency legislation by D.C. Council and Mayor Bowser is taking the industry backwards by pushing ALL cannabis dispensaries - including federally legal hemp shops like ourselves - to medical. While we are pro-regulation and already abide by high standards of consumer safety with third-party lab tested products, accurate and informative labeling, and 21+ age restrictions, forcing all cannabis to be medical is not the way. We were visited by ABCA, DC Health, and several police officers, a couple of weeks ago, saying that we needed to apply to be a medical dispensary to be compliant. With 100% federally legal hemp-derived products, we are compliant in almost every state in the U.S. Our operations would be welcome in states much more conservative than D.C. like North Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, and Nebraska. D.C. deserves a regulated cannabis market where consumers can feel safe about what they are purchasing and consuming. But they also deserve access to cannabis (like they do with alcohol) without having to register with the government as a cannabis consumer. Hemp is a way to do this. We're working hard to destigmatize the industry. Change isn't easy, but the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do.

Heck of a day yesterday. We were served with a warning letter ⚠️ in DC from the Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Administration. New legislation that was passed by DC Mayor Muriel Bowser on April 8th (see comments for link) is looping in hemp retail shops as unlicensed cannabis retailers in the district. We were inspected by the DC Health department who seemed to have no direction as to what they were doing. Even though all of our hemp-derived edibles are produced in cGMP facilities and have full panel testing on each batch, they left paperwork with us as if we were supposed to maintain a food sellers license. Failing to answer the most basic of questions as to what next steps are, why they were only reviewing edible products (not flower, vapes, etc.), and why we're allowed to continue selling those items and not the edible products. We're left in a bit of limbo. flowerz mission and vision has always been on setting higher standards (more stringent than the medical market in DC) and providing access to trusted products that are legal in all 50 states. This is a shot across the bow and we're pushing to Save DC Hemp in a new campaign. If you know anyone that is impacted here, or could open some doors for us to advocate for sensible hemp regulation please reach out and we'd love to connect. As always, thanks for the support and community through these trying times. #hemp #washingtondc #legislation #policy #change

    Chief Marketing Officer

It's scary to jump, but I'm taking a leap. I quit my 9-5 to go full time with my "side gig" at flowerz. This past Friday was my last day at Assembly. It's bittersweet to close that chapter with some incredibly smart and creative colleagues, but I'm so excited to build something with my partner (in business and in life) Chad Frey as the Chief Marketing Officer at flowerz. I've been working behind the scenes for flowerz for over 3 years, creating a strategy and content for social, providing guidance (of every sort) to the founder and CEO, and spearheading community events. I can't wait to see what we can do now that it has my full attention. A few things are already on my mind for this year: building and leading a team of marketers, increasing our partnerships with other small businesses, streamlining digital communications, formalizing our influencer program, putting some fire power behind our cannabis-infused seltzer brand and so so much more!

Hemp is under fire this session in Nebraska. Attorney General Michael Hilgers is coming for hemp-derived products, which ultimately would decimate opportunities for farmers to grow #hemp for fiber and grain. The bill (LB 999) also redefines marijuana to include hemp, except when hemp is lawfully possessed pursuant to the Nebraska Hemp Farming Act. Third, the bill limits processed hemp to 0.3% delta-9 THC on a weight basis (not dry weight), while maintaining the 0.3% delta-9 THC dry weight standard for raw hemp. This ultimately bans hemp entirely from a cultivation standpoint. These changes would devastate and cause immediate uncertainty for Nebraska hemp farmers and businesses. According to its sponsors (Teresa Ibach), the bill is intended to ban delta-8 products, but it goes much farther. With help from the U.S. Hemp Roundtable, you can contact your local state Senator and let them know your thoughts (link in comments). I can only imagine how many more states will come out with antiquated bills this year prior to the passing of the Farm Bill.
