Thank you to everyone who attended our Phoenix Serves volunteering day at Treasures 4 Teachers!! After a brief tour of their amazing store, which is full of low-budget and free supplies, we got to work organizing and packing holiday-themed giveaways and other supplies for the educators in the Phoenix area. The one thing that amazed me the most was how glad and excited the staff was to help others and keep the store and warehouse well-maintained, organized, and clean. We're excited to introduce Leslie Shultz-Crist , one of our valued volunteers and Sun Valley Academy - Glendale founding principal! 📚 🍎   Sun Valley Academy is where scholars "Learn. Love. Lead." in a supportive community. As the third school in the Morrison Education Group, they will continue the mission of "Growing an exceptional, scholar-centered learning community built on a foundation of love and leadership." ❤️   Leslie began her educational career over 40 years ago as a University of Arizona Wildcat. She had various roles, from classroom teacher to CEO. While working with all school ages, her passion lies with the "littles" (preschool and elementary), so she decided to join the team and build a school that aligns with her educational philosophy 👩🏫   The vision is simple 🌟 a place everyone looks forward to coming to daily. Success will be seen in smiles, excited students, and dedicated staff. SVA's culture will focus on the excitement of learning, laughter, love, and leadership.   Out of many unique factors, one of the most exciting programs at SVA is Leader in Me 💡 Based on Stephen Covey's "Seven Habits" it helps scholars become self-reliant, take the initiative, plan, set, and track goals. This helps students express viewpoints persuasively to resolve conflicts and find creative solutions. This holistic approach redefines success in Academics, Leadership, and Culture.   Sun Valley Academy also extends its motto, "Learn. Love. Lead." by giving back and partnering with local organizations 🙌 such as the Glendale Chamber of Commerce, Hero’s Regional Park, and Councilwoman Joyce Clark. A few spots are left to volunteer with Phoenix Serves on July 26th! For those who don't know, Treasures 4 Teachers is a resource and supply store serving Arizona educators. On average, teachers in America spend $500 to $1,200 each year from their own pocket on school supplies for their students. Treasures 4 Teachers bridges that gap by providing anyone working closely with students access to a wide selection of materials, resources, and training! 📚 ✏ 💡 It is such an important cause & we are so excited to support! 🐷 Meet BETTER PIGGIES RESCUE! 🐷   ✨Where it all started ✨ Thirteen years ago, Danielle Betterman received a tiny piglet named Beezers as a gift. This sparked her journey to become the best piggy momma she could be, leading her to research and collaborate with rescues.   What started with one pig would eventually lead her to establish her own sanctuary and non-profit, this is their eight years running, and during this time Better Piggies Rescue has been steadfast in its mission: to rescue, rehabilitate, adopt, and educate the public about pigs.   📈 Making a Difference 📈 At the heart of their mission is the education of others about the difficult experiences and hardships pigs face in our communities. Like our beloved dogs and cats, pigs crave love, attention, and respect. However, most people overlook or misunderstand their playful nature and desire for group interactions.   Through volunteer work and education, the rescue is reshaping the narrative, providing a safe haven for pigs to live their lives in peace and happiness, and disseminating crucial information to the public. Danielle shares that when visitors develop a bond with a pig at the sanctuary and decide to adopt a plant-based diet, it's a powerful testament to the impact Better Piggies Rescue is making.   💪 Facing Challenges 💪 One of their biggest challenges is securing donations. With the current economic climate, donations have become more limited, yet vet bills, feed costs, and supply expenses are rising.
