Updates

  • We thank our patients for their patience and understanding during Friday’s global CrowdStrike outage. Penn Medicine’s computer systems and operations have been fully restored, and outpatient appointments and procedures that were able to be safely delayed on Friday are in the process of being rescheduled for times within the next two weeks. We understand and regret the stress and inconvenience those patients experienced as a result of the CrowdStrike outage and are grateful for their trust in our healthcare heroes who worked tirelessly around the clock to provide care amidst this unprecedented event.

  • A major worldwide computer outage is impacting Penn Medicine's systems and appointments. Appointments in some locations may need to be canceled and rescheduled today. We are making every effort to contact patients whose appointments need to be canceled. We will also contact you to reschedule your appointment as soon as possible. Penn experts are working to restore our usual operations ASAP. Our hospitals, including our emergency departments, are fully staffed and continuing to care for patients.

  • Recognizing that patients ages 9 to 12 face different challenges than younger children and teens, Princeton House Behavioral Health designed an intensive outpatient program tailor-made for tweens. “We have a big emphasis on social skills, but also building self-esteem,” while bringing “lightness and play to therapy,” says Clinical Manager Laura Hannifan, NCC, LPC. One tween who wasn’t initially thrilled about being in the program was sad to leave upon graduating, which Clinical Development and Performance Improvement Senior Director Jody Kashden, PhD, says is a good sign the new program is working. • As part of Penn Medicine, Princeton Health is committed to supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion for all as a health-care provider, employer, and community partner. We also participated in Pride events in Trenton Thunder Pride, Asbury Park Pride, and New Hope Celebrates Pride, and offered a lecture Healthy Summer Eating at BBQ’s for the New Jersey Pride Chamber of Commerce.

  • The award-winning “Of Medicine and Miracles” documentary film follows Penn Medicine’s Carl June, MD, and a team of physicians on a quest to cure cancer using patients’ own immune cells. Emily Whitehead and her family arrived in Philadelphia clinging to hope, and their paths converged with this revolutionary medical team when she became the first child in the world to undergo the then-experimental CAR T cell therapy. More than 10 years later, Emily is cancer-free and thriving as an undergrad student at the University of Pennsylvania. • Late last summer, Dr. Kevin Kline became our first ever Medical Director for LGBTQ+ Health. This new role highlights Penn's focus on decreasing LGBTQ+ health disparities by improving education and training across specialties. "One of our priorities is to identify areas across LGBTQ+ and gender-affirming care where the development of standardized care guidelines can increase provider knowledge and cultural humility, improve the overall quality and efficiency of care, and serve as a model for providers across the medical landscape – not just here at Penn.” More on this story: http://spr.ly/6045gg397

  • Princeton House Behavioral Health First Responder Treatment Services DirectorMichael Bizzarro, PhD, and Senior Outreach Coordinator Kenneth Burkert, CPRS, recently received the New Jersey Firefighters Mutual Benefit Association's 2024 Humanitarian Award. Bizzarro, a veteran and former police officer, has battled mental health issues, so he’s uniquely suited to understand that people don’t always recognize when they're affected. When a patient coping with kidney transplant recovery and mental illness was referred to Princeton House Behavioral Health, nurse practitioner April Adkins (right) and therapist Katherine LeCompte went above to address their physical health while helping to manage their sobriety, emotional regulation, and mood stabilization. Nephrologist Srijan Tandukar, MD, said this “collaborative effort was truly what helped the patient” get through very challenging issues.
