The American Century Investments project is an ongoing development venture located in Kansas City, MO. Construction began in 2020 and includes two additional phases to be built. To weatherseal the windows, Pecora 890NST was applied to the precast and aluminum window perimeters. Pecora 890NST is a part of our Non-Staining Technology (NST) product line. Pecora is proud to be the first and only sealant manufacturer to offer a complete line of non-staining silicone construction products. Our NST Silicone sealants do not contain fluids that cause staining, effectively preventing stains and residue rundown. Pecora 985 is a fast-curing, two-part, high modulus, neutral cure silicone sealant specially formulated and compounded for use in shop-fabrication of structurally glazed systems. This sealant is virtually unaffected by ultraviolet rays, ozone, temperature extremes, or atmospheric contamination It is compatible with a variety of plain and coated metals, high-performance glass, decorative paints, gaskets, setting blocks, and spacers. Features of the product include: high tensile strength, excellent working properties, adjustable cure rate from 5 to 20 minutes allowing for fast fabrication and early movement of completed units, no lot matching of base and activator required, and no corrosive by-products or objectionable odor.

A new tilt-up construction project is currently underway in Virginia, and contractors are utilizing Pecora 890NST sealant between precast panels. For this project, a double bead sealant application was specified to ensure enhanced protection. This method was chosen to provide an additional layer of security, safeguarding against potential compromises to the outer bead. In the photos, Pecora Sales Representative, Andrew Stone is performing a field adhesion test on the first (back) bead. The test was a cohesive failure demonstrated by the sealant tearing unto itself and not pulling off from the substrate. The sealant passed. After the first bead has been applied, cured, and tested, it is time for the second bead to be installed. Note the (second) picture with the backer rod inserted to stop the exterior building paint (spray applied) from contaminating the substrate where the next sealant bead will be installed. This type of application is typical when the building will be intended as a data center due to the very expensive equipment inside needing an extra layer of protection.
