I did a thing. I took a chance on myself. I invested in myself. I registered for the Professional Development Consortium (PDC) Summer Conference, booked my hotel, and bought my flight, and after months of anticipation, I arrived in sunny San Diego by myself. It was scary. But I also had made some pre-conference connections, which definitely helped (thank you Erin Brown, Elise (Gelwicks) Powers, Larry Brown, Dr. Kimberly Lemke, & Kimberly Kappler Fine). Once I was there, everyone was so welcoming and I met so many incredible, smart, dedicated, and kind people who became invested in my success and genuinely wanted to, and did, help me -- you know who you are! (Note: it never hurts to ask to join a group of people with a bowl of shishito peppers). I also loved getting to know people on a more personal level, including my #thecrackshack small group dinner group, my sunset hike (and taco and burrito eating) buddies, my meal friends, among others! I learned SO SO much at the Conference. Not just about PD (which I did! - shout out to all the wonderful panelists for sharing their thoughts, knowledge, and wisdom, which I will be taking home with me), but also about myself - what I want and what I am capable of. The #PDCLEGAL24 conference was the best decision I made for both myself and my career. So thank you to everyone who made this first PDC Summer Conference an amazing experience!

Each year, the Professional Development Consortium (PDC) selects a non-profit organization to support at the annual conference. This year, we selected the San Diego Volunteer Lawyers Program (SDVLP) as our Social Impact Partner. We are grateful that SDVLP CEO, Jennifer Nelson and her colleagues visited us during the conference to share the great work the organization does on behalf of indigent clients. There is still plenty of time to donate. No amount is too small. Support great pro bono legal work here: https://sdvlp.org/donate/ and note that you are a member of PDC. #PDCLEGAL24

🔊 Calling all conference buddies - check your emails for your buddy pairings! If you haven't received your conference buddy assignment please reach out to Johnna Story or Lori Broderick. We are asking buddies to sit together at lunch on Thursday so you can set aside that time to meet if you can’t make another time work. This informal initiative is designed to help you make more connections at the Summer Conference. We hope these connections allow for more familiarity with others while in San Diego, and a long-term expansion of your PD network once you return home. #PDCLegal24
