Improving lives through the power of the human-dog connection.

About us

Paws & Think, Inc., is a values-driven 501(c)(3) charitable organization incorporated in October 2001. Paws & Think is a non-profit organization focusing on the at-risk community, both human and canine. Our vision creates a community where “every person who would benefit from a dog has the opportunity, and every dog fulfills its potential.” We do this with two proven methods: one of training and providing therapy dogs for both animal assisted activities and animal assisted therapies to youth, seniors and special needs individuals of all ages. The second method is our Youth–Canine Programs that facilitate classes for at-risk youth and teens, helping them to train shelter dogs with positive reinforcement behaviors. The young people learn responsibility, job readiness, anger management, parenting skills, leadership and positive life skills, while at the same time increasing the dog’s chances of adoption because of the basic obedience skills learned. Pride and confidence are found as a result of both aspects of our vision. Our Programs Serve: Youths who are academically or behaviorally challenged; incarcerated; at-risk of suicide; pregnant and single; or lack a positive self-image Children and adults with physical, emotional or behavioral disabilities/needs Stray, surrendered or neglected dogs at-risk of euthanasia The communities in which these groups reside Mission Statement: Improving lives through the power of the human-dog connection.

A special award for a special therapy team 🏅🐝 Earlier this summer, Paws & Think’s Paws to Heal Coordinator and therapy team Lisa Gupton and Lulu were nominated for the Ascension St. Vincent Hospital Indianapolis “BEE” award! "BEE" is an acronym for "Being Extraordinary Everyday". This recognition award program was adopted by Ascension St. Vincent Indianapolis in April 2024 to symbolize the relationship between nursing and other members of the care team. Considering the relationship between bees and flowers, the entire healthcare team depends on each other. This special program recognizes excellence among the team members who work alongside our nursing teams delivering expert, compassionate care. The family that nominated Lisa and Lulu had this to say about this PAWsome duo - “My boys enjoyed Lulu and her caregiver. It put some ease on my son's anxiety and stress before going back for his MRI and blood work. Thank you for helping with this! He loved getting to cuddle and pet Lulu." Way to go above and beyond the leash Lisa and Lulu! 🎉

Why did the dog go to yoga class? To teach downward dog pose! 🐾 Paws & Think therapy teams were saying ‘Namaste’ to attendees at last week’s City of Westfield Farmers Market! During the market’s Planting Positivity Day, our therapy teams joined a local yoga instructor to provide stess relief during their free yoga session! To say the pups were a hit would be an understatement 💛💙 Hope these pictures of pups doing yoga can bring you some needed #mondaymotivation to get you through the rest your week 💪🏼 #everypersoneverydog #dogsandyoga

Announcing a new accolade to complement our Volunteer of the Year is the distinguished title of Paws & Think Lead Volunteer of the Year. This recognition celebrates those extraordinary individuals who devote a significant 2-5 hours each week to support our programs or assist with vital administrative tasks. And it is with great pleasure that we present the honor of Lead Volunteer to Cindy Cale! 🎉 Cindy, who now resides in Texas, continues to volunteer remotely behind the scenes, demonstrating that our volunteers can make a significant impact from anywhere. When she relocated, Cindy remained committed to Paws & Think, serving as our AAI Manager of Classes and Evaluations. She schedules new and aspiring therapy teams for our Handler’s Class, Therapy Skills Class, and evaluations, and manages the reevaluations of current therapy teams. Cindy’s behind-the-scenes efforts ensure everything runs smoothly at Paws & Think, making her invaluable to our team. As a long-time volunteer, her passion and commitment have made a lasting impact. Congratulations, Cindy, on being our Lead Volunteer of the Year! 💙💛 #everypersoneverydog #leadvolunteeroftheyear

Introducing our Volunteers of the Year – Sid and Deb Zachary, along with their therapy dog, Cooper! 🎊 This incredible trio topped nearly every staff member’s “Top 5 Paws & Think Volunteers” list. The Zacharys began their Paws & Think volunteer journey in October 2022, with Sid and Cooper, an adorable English Cream Golden Retriever, excelling in our therapy skills training class. They quickly immersed themselves in volunteering, with Deb by their side helping. The team has brought joy to numerous venues, including Allison Transmission, Amazon Fulfillment Center in Plainfield, Brooke’s Place, Butler Library, IUPUI, and more. They also serve as part of our Paws to Heal teams at Ascension St. Vincent and Riley Children’s Hospital. 🐾🐶 Dependability, empathy, and compassion are qualities of an exceptional volunteer, and Sid and Deb embody these attributes wholeheartedly. Since they started volunteering, they have logged over 300 hours of service and impacted over 4,700 individuals. We thank the Zacharys for their dedication to serving our community and congratulate them on their well-deserved recognition! 💙💛 Check out past volunteers of the year on our website at https://lnkd.in/dJzxd_gS 📲 #everypersoneverydog #volunteeroftheyear
