“If you don't make time for your wellness you will be forced to make time for your illness.” ~ Joyce Sunada Hologic, Inc. has released a very important study - "Screening Action Gap: Why U.S. Women Miss Critical Health Screenings." Findings include: 🏥 Although 90% of survey respondents knew regular screenings are important, more than 40% indicated they had postponed or skipped recommended tests completely. And unfortunately, the ones most commonly skipped were reported to be for #breast, #cervical, and #coloncancers, all of which have an excellent prognosis if caught early. ❓ Despite being aware screening was important, there was a gap with regard to knowledge about the specific tests/screening needed at a given age and the risk factors for the conditions for which screening would be performed. ⛔ Some of the barriers to screening included insufficient time, prioritizing others over themselves, difficulty finding health information, fear of pain, and being overwhelmed by their many responsibilities. The health and well-being of women are essential to families, organizations, and nations. It's way past time for them to get the level of societal support needed to optimize the wealth of health!

I’d be a darn fool not to be on my own side.” ~ Maya Angelou The proposed "Advancing #Menopause Care and Mid-Life Women’s Health Act" was announced with great fanfare by a bipartisan group of women in #Congress and championed by Halle Berry several weeks ago. The major components are: 💲 Expand #federal #research on menopause and mid-life #women’shealth: The total amount requested is a pittance ($275 million vs. a total NIH budget of $47.1 billion = 0.6%) over the course of 5 years. One would therefore hope the bill would pass without resistance or fall victim to a bureaucratic quagmire. 📢 Establish a national #publichealth awareness, #education, and #outreach program and support public health promotion activities related to menopause and mid-life women's health 👩⚕️ Improve professional training resources for health care providers and 🏙 direct the designation of Centers of Excellence in Menopause and Mid-Life Women’s Health 📊 Require HHS to report to Congress on federal research activities related to menopause and midlife women’s health and support coordination between HHS and other federal departments and agencies The ask is de minimis. Let's make sure the bill is passed! Cleveland Clinic has announced a new clinic to address the needs of midlife women and the conditions for which there is increased risk related to the change in hormone levels during the menopause journey. Hopefully this new care resource will serve as an additional catalyst to other organizations, providers, and researchers to take the transformative steps needed to close the preventable #caregaps and to address the unnecessary #healthinequities to which women have been subjected for far too long. Funding through the The White House's women's health initiative, efforts by organizations like Liz Powell's G2G - Innovative Government Affairs Consulting and Portfolia with partner Delphine O'Rourke, JD, and the proposed legislation by Senator Patty Murray, @Senator Lisa Murkowski, Senator Shelley Moore Capito, U.S. Senator Susan Collins, Senator Amy Klobuchar, U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin Logo, Senator Tammy Duckworth, Senator Maria Cantwell, @Senator Maggie Hassan, Senator Jacky Rosen, Office of US Senator Jeanne Shaheen, Jeanne Shaheen, Senator Debbie Stabenow, @U.S. Senator Tina Smith, @Senator Mazie Hirono, and Senator Kyrsten Sinema and championed by @Halle Berry are some of many great contributions to be celebrated. Life is challenging, now more than ever, but we can't afford to 🙈 or 🙉 !!
