According to over 200 people surveyed from our LinkedIn audience, 59% consider a home between $150k - $250k to be affordable. So, how much house can an American making the median income afford? Using the House Affordability Calculator and the 28/36 Rule*, a person making $78,000 can afford a home up to an average of $260,000 which is significantly below the current average median home price of around $386,000. What can we do about it? Over the next few weeks, our goal is to help break down the affordable housing crisis even further and show how alternative housing solutions can help bridge the affordability gap between the homeowners of yesterday and the aspiring homeowners of tomorrow.
