Earlier this week, L&I Secretary Nancy A. Walker joined Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding at Fox Chase Farm in northeast Philadelphia, a working educational livestock farm recently awarded $250,000 through L&I’s Schools-to-Work program for their Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) Pre-Apprenticeship Pipeline Program. The program will prepare students in the School District of Philadelphia for indoor farming careers and reinforce the district’s commitment to fighting food insecurity in the community. Under Governor Shapiro’s leadership, L&I and the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture are working together to create more registered apprenticeship opportunities and training programs to support the Commonwealth’s growing agriculture industry.
