The Mass Timber Group Summit took place in Denver last week. OZ representation included Principals Joe Anastasi and Nate Jenkins. We were honored to be involved in the expert panel "Mastermind Breakout: Architectural & Engineering Best Practices for Mass Timber." OZ not only brought CLT to Denver but continues to share our knowledge and perspectives. Many lectures, workshops, and tours of mass timber buildings in the area took place, gaining insight, knowledge, and resources for the design and construction of cost-effective mass timber buildings. It was great to connect with those in the mass timber industry and build momentum for delivering these unique projects. Thank you to the Mass Timber Group for organizing such an inspiring event and bringing together such talented leaders. This concept for a rooftop event 'barn' flips the typical position that meeting spaces takes in resort properties to the top. Perched on the roof of an eight story hotel, the idea was that this amenity becomes a beacon, creating a lasting impression on guests and locals. The Barn offers indoor and outdoor flexibility with just the right ambiance through the use of reclaimed timber, vaulted ceilings and floor to ceiling glazing. Sweeping views of the mountain landscape are experienced on three sides of the space. This internal hand sketch by OZ interiors helps to communicate the space, materials, lighting concepts and furniture. We often use this quick tool to tell the stories of each space within resort projects. #interiordesign #hospitalityinteriors #resortinteriors #resortarchitect #speakeasy #restaurant #resortrestaurant

The OZ studio, located in the RiNo Arts District, is currently undergoing a substantial office refresh. By the end of the month, our entire staff will be under one roof for the first time in our 60-year history! We spent a little time tying the history of our building into the new look. In 1895, William Albert Weigele, the proprietor of the Weigele Riveted Steele and Pipe Works, purchased this block and, under his supervision, built 3003 and the 3033 warehouse structure (our current two buildings) in the 1930s. 3001 Larimer & 3002 Walnut were built in 1907, and these are the two spaces we are expanding into. Thompson Pipe and Steel occupied the 3003 building (where our current main lobby is located) in the 1940’s. Thompson Pipe and Steel produced coated “spiral welded steel pipe” (very large diameter) but also built Destroyer Escort Ships during WWII. They built large sections that could be shipped by rail through the Moffet Tunnel to California, where they were welded. Many of the cranes used for manufacturing in the buildings have been restored to working order and can be seen in our space. At one point in history, large winches crawled along the I-beams to move items from one building to the next, and then the crane system moved back and forth within each building. Some of the train tracks used for moving large pieces of steel in the back parking lot are still visible. The brick building (3003) was later occupied in the 1980s and 1990s by Waste Management Recycling as a satellite station. Tom Sprung purchased the property in 2000 and renovated it for office use. Thank you to Hyder Construction for working so fast to get us into a new vibe that reflects our current culture and work styles. #OZarchitecture #architecture #interiors #adaptivereuse #rino #rivernorth #architectureoffice #hyderconstruction #RTM #tomsprung #rinoartsdistrict

Today, we start a new sequence in our “Design For” videos, focused on Older Adult living. OZ Principal Jami Mohlenkamp and Care Industry visionary Nancy Fox recently recorded a conversation on aging and the aging services care industry. Broken into seven episodes, we will release one every other week through October. Each episode focuses on a distinct topic, so stay tuned for a deep dive into Older Adult. In the first episode, Being + Doing, the two aging services experts discuss the idea of people in a state of either being or doing depending on their age and how that impacts their drive for self-actualization, purpose, and companionship. Check out the link to view the first episode of this "Design for Older Adult" conversation. #OZarchitecture #architecture #interiors #olderadult #seniorliving #thoughleadership #podcast

The Blind Pig is a speakeasy featuring a moody palette of dark finishes, rich materials, and vibrant accents of color. Clever lighting combined with architectural forms creates drama, and shadows create an air of mystery. With a discreet entrance, this bar is in the concept phase and hopefully soon will become a local hot spot within a Colorado ski resort. For now, the secret remains with us! This internal sketch by OZ interiors helps to communicate design intent very quickly to our clients. Expressing the space, materials, lighting concepts, and furniture in a hand sketch is a tool we use to tell the stories of each space within resort projects. #OZarchitecture #architecture #interiors #interiordesign #hospitalityinteriors #resortinteriors #resortarchitect #speakeasy #restaurant #resortrestaurant
