Creative Changers past and present 🗣: What has stuck with you since you attended the retreat? Some of the key points we gathered from this year: 🔥 Punk is burning down what’s not working and rebuilding for a better future. Punk is community, not individualism. And to truly be punk, we must carry forth the history of struggle to continue fighting for a better tomorrow. 🫂 We must be intentional about the way we gather and create space for each other. The beautiful desert land has opened up our hearts and allowed us to express ourselves and our demands unapologetically. 🌈 The auspicious double rainbows, the roaring thunder and the desert rain, the momma bird feeding her little chicks: We get to witness so much beauty when we pay attention to the earth and her inhabitants. Drop your reflections in the comments! ⬇️

Creative Change 2024 has officially come to a close, but the connections and ideas sparked here will have lasting impacts for years to come. 🌟 After hours of ideating, visioning, and co-conspiring, our design teams finally presented their innovative cultural interventions. These interventions remind us that to embody the spirit of punk, we have to think outside of the box and work collectively to create a better world. ⛓ In the evening, we closed out the retreat with our signature Mix Up performances where our Creative Changers shared their talents through comedy, music, and more! It was a joyous celebration of our time spent together. Thank you to our amazing attendees for another great year! This is not goodbye, but just see you later! ❤️🔥 This retreat is a collective effort and could not have been made possible without the support of so many incredible people: 🌾 Thank you to the Tamayame people of the Pueblo of Santa Ana for welcoming us on this beautiful land. 🎤 Thank you to Gibrán Rivera for guiding us through this week. 📌 Thank you to STAMP Event Co. for the seamless production of this gathering. 🖼 Thank you to Annie del Hierro for curating a warm and thoughtful convening space. 💡 Thank you to our Advisory Team members Ishita Srivastava, Josué Ramírez, L. Kasimu Harris, Lionel Cruet, and Miriam Fogelson for your insights on this year’s retreat. 🙌 Thank you to our funders and donors for the generous support in making this possible. 💌 Thank you to TOA staff for your commitment and dedication to this work. 🫂 And last but not least, thank you to our Creative Changers who made this space precious and transformative. If you’d like to support the production of next year’s retreat, please consider making a donation to TOA: https://lnkd.in/gCPVgXBn

Day 3: The Punk Bazaar! At every Creative Change, participants form design teams to dream up of new creative ways to address the most pressing issues of our time. 💡 From decolonization to reparations, we know we need major paradigm shifts to win the progressive victories our communities deserve. By gathering artists and activists together in a space free of limitations, we can spark ideas to turn that vision into reality. That’s the magic of Creative Change. 💫 #CreativeChange #CreativeChange24

It's Day 2 of Creative Change and we’re hitting the ground running. This year’s theme is PUNK! 🔥 We started our day with a generative conversation about how we can embody the spirit of punk and its long history of struggle. Then we heard about some of the amazing projects that Creative Changers are developing. From encouraging civic engagement among Southern communities of color to documenting and preserving historical Black spaces, Creative Changers are engaged in innovative cultural strategies to build a better future.   With that in mind, we continued our discussions on how we can use punk to create a truly multiracial democracy and serve our communities. We spent the day in this beautiful and intentionally designed room by our 2022 Culture and Narrative Fellow Annie del Hierro. Annie curated a sacred space for our convening, adorned with images of some of the influential artists and activists who came before us. Swipe for an insider’s look inside Creative Change Day 2! ➡️ #CreativeChange #CreativeChange24

Welcome to the 12th year of TOA’s Creative Change! The world has changed so much since our first retreat. However, our conviction that artists, cultural strategists, advocates and other critical leaders deserve care and rest has not. 🌿 We’re back again in the beautiful desert to build together, share knowledge, and reimagine the structures and rules that are supposed to represent us. The reality is that achieving a truly multiracial democracy is not a seasonal project. How do we create and sustain the cultural transformation we need? 🌵 Over the course of the next week, we’ll work together to answer this pivotal question and pioneer cultural interventions that bring us closer toward collective liberation! Stay tuned! 🌾 #creativechange #CreativeChange24

Voters of color in the South have been instrumental in challenging systemic inequalities and shaping the political landscape nationwide. Yet, many often feel overlooked, despite being crucial to building a more inclusive and representative democracy. 🗣 Strengthen your advocacy in these communities with our new narrative toolkit for mobilizing BIPOC voters in the South! We share research-backed tips for telling the story of community, activism, and the importance of civic engagement to protecting our democracy! By creating and promoting a cohesive narrative about the power of collective action, we can build upon BIPOC Southerners’ legacy and rally for policies that create better communities for everyone.
