How long does it take for your employees to complete your onboarding process? Tem the founder of Optemization—a tech consultancy that helps companies adopt modern productivity and collaboration tools—emphasizes the importance of a strong onboarding process. Here are his top strategies 👇 1. Streamline onboarding with Notion. Centralize tasks and information using Notion. With customizable onboarding templates available online, you can ensure new hires get up to speed quickly and efficiently. 2. Make onboarding personalized and interactive. Create a personalized onboarding page for each new hire, complete with their name and role-specific information. This facilitates a smooth introduction to team members, tools, and expectations. 3. Encourage early involvement. Assign meaningful tasks early on and pair new hires with an onboarding buddy. This helps them feel connected and valued from the start, accelerating their integration into the team. In episode 1 of our "Founder to Founder" podcast, John Andrew Entwistle, Founder and CEO of Wander, shared some great hiring advice. He emphasized that when growing your team, focus on creating an environment where people want to stay long-term. You shouldn't have to convince someone to join your company; the right fit should feel like a match made in heaven. One common mistake John pointed out is asking roundabout questions during interviews. Instead, he suggests being direct. He shares an example of this approach in the video below, which highlights the importance of being upfront towards potential employees. This is just one of the many insights John shared. Recently, we had the chance to chat with Connor G., a small business owner at Constant Hire and Atlas Self storage. He shared some great insights on creating an effective onboarding experience that any business owner can use. Every business owner knows that retention is key because high turnover means losing dollars. "Your best defense against turnover is to create a strong onboarding process—one that provides clarity, training, and connection to your employee within their first month on the job." One of his top tips: Spend time simplifying your SOPs and have new employees recreate them and ask questions. This helps them understand the procedures better and identify any potential flaws or hiccups.

During our last All Hands, we were honored to host Michael Seibel, Group Partner at Y Combinator, for a Fireside Chat via the YC-backed Venue.live platform. He joined our co-founders, Daryna and Mahyar, to talk about OpenPhone's formative years and their pivotal interview with Y Combinator in 2018. The session was a filled with insightful questions and exchanges, leaving us profoundly grateful for Michael's support and guidance. Our Fireside chats, introduced this past year, is designed for our team to gain insights, stories, and experiences from a diverse array of customers, industry leaders, investors, functional experts, and startup veterans. These conversations help us deepen our understanding of the market and refine our approach to meeting our customers' needs. Would highly recommend others to do the same.
