Do you do something to reflect on your thoughts or your day? Do you connect meaningfully with others? Do you make a point to practice kindness? These are things our youth explore in our program, and all of them are key to mental wellness. For more along these lines, check out this short article from Psychology Today and see how you can be more intentional about the things that keep your mental outlook healthy! #OneHeartProject #wellbeing https://lnkd.in/gFdXJ3yj

Youth in our Kansas summer basketball program took second place at this year’s June Classic in Kansas City, MO! This five-team, all-day event was a great opportunity for our youth to exercise TEAMWORK, their core value focus for the week. This summer program brings youth together for three weekly practices, each week with a focus on a core value from our nine-unit program. Congratulations, team! #OneHeartProject #Kansas #Teamwork

We’re extremely grateful to H-E-B! Thanks to their generous support of our youth through gift cards, One Heart Project was able to assist this young man and his family with groceries. “This couldn’t have come at a better time for us,” this young man’s father told us. Thank you, H-E-B, for the good work you do.

One Heart Project’s core values—things like Leadership, Teamwork, Self-Control, and Compassion—have an essential starting point: self-awareness. Recognizing and naming our emotions, and understanding how they work, can help us to respond to situations—not just react. Check out this short video from Sentis to learn a little about what’s going on “under the hood” when we experience emotions. #OneHeartProject #selfawareness #awareness https://lnkd.in/dakrM2y

Respect isn’t just for others; it’s for ourselves, too. One of our youth participants who just completed the program through Court Services stands proudly with Topeka Youth Development Specialist, Nita Elrod. For these youths, the journey was about learning how much core values like Respect transform how we see ourselves and everything around us. #OneHeartProject #Respect #youthtransforming

Our friends at DW Distribution, a Specialty Building Products brand based in Texas, stopped by to hand out personal hygiene bags for the youth we serve in Nueces County. The bags were put together by Specialty Building Products team members from across North America. DW’s James Durante and Nicholas Pardo also had a chance to speak with the youth. Thank you, SBP and DW, for being there for our youth!

“What if the bear comes back every night?” Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) aren’t just facts about a person’s past. They pose threats to the future. Learn how one doctor transformed her practice when she learned how ACEs affect both quality—and length—of life. #youth #trauma https://lnkd.in/gB_2KzQ

Commitment in action! We’re thrilled that some of our youth joined us to help prepare meals for the Salvation Army’s summer feeding program. Thank you, Topeka Salvation Army, for your service to our community, and for allowing our youth the opportunity to deepen their commitment to it. #OneHeartProject #Commitment #Youth #Kansas
