About us
RIVERSPORT believes the Oklahoma River has the power to change lives – and help Oklahoma City become a stronger, healthier community. In just a few short years, Foundation supporters have seen their vision come to life as people of all ages, from all parts of the city, have become involved in rowing, kayaking, dragon boating, running and cycling on the Oklahoma River. National and international racing events and festivals including the 2008 USA Canoe/Kayak Olympic Trials for Flatwater Sprint, the international 2007 Rowing World Challenge and the annual OCU Head of the Oklahoma have garnered national and international media attention. Today, our city is becoming known for our river and our river sports. With the addition of three new boathouses, including the Devon OCU Boathouse and the Chesapeake Finish Line tower, both now under construction, we will soon be known for an iconic row of boathouses and racing venue unparalleled in the world. The passage of MAPS3 means we will soon have a world-class Whitewater Rafting & Kayak Center on the river, along with permanent grandstands, lighting and more! The future of the Oklahoma River grows more exciting with each day. We invite you to learn about all the ways you can get involved – then join us as we continue building a city with a river at its heart!

We used to mow it – now we row it! MAPS 1 transformed a dry riverbed into what is now known as the Oklahoma River. The transformation continued with MAPS 3 construction of RIVERSPORT Rapids – now a site for national championships, US Olympic Trials and international canoe slalom racing. The Boathouse District has become a gathering place for families to enjoy outdoor sports and recreation, and a training and competition venue for rowers and paddlers from around the world. A full circle moment. For more than 30 years, Pat Downes has played an integral role in developing the Oklahoma River, the Boathouse District and the RIVERSPORT Foundation – and we were thrilled to honor him as Grand Marshal of the Braum's Holiday River Parade this past Saturday. Thank you, Pat, for continuing to be the heart and soul of what's happening on the Oklahoma River. We couldn't be more grateful for your service and commitment to our mission.

We are truly saddened by the passing of a champion of the Oklahoma River, Ann Lacy. Ann was a long-time RIVERSPORT board member and supporter of both our downtown and Lake Overholser locations. Ann showed her love for what she called "Lake Holdercloser" by supporting the complete renovation and re-imagination of the Lake Overholser Boathouse and Stroud House, creating beautiful amenities that have welcomed so many people as they enjoy the beauty of this natural gem in west Oklahoma City. Downtown, her support made the Lacy Landing, the Ann Lacy Event Center at the Devon Boathouse, and the Racy Lacy dragon boat, possible. Ann truly propelled Oklahoma City's momentum surrounding the Oklahoma River. A self-proclaimed "river rat," she truly embraced the challenges and excitement surrounding the "re-invention" of the once barren river into the world-class destination it is today. She was always the "coxswain" calling the commands that helped OCU launch the Head of the Oklahoma, one of the sport of rowing's great regattas that will mark its 20th anniversary next year. She also helped RIVERSPORT grow a dragon boat fleet and create a program that engages fiercely competitive seniors from across the metro area who have taught so many of us that age is only a number. Ann will be greatly missed for her wit, enthusiasm, and passion for bettering Oklahoma City. We will always remember Ann with a smile as we watch people from across the world celebrate their victories on the awards podium of the Lacy Landing. OKC was truly victorious to have Ann Lacy as a passionate supporter for so many causes and we will truly miss our favorite "river rat".
