Oregon Health & Science University experts are paving a clear path to a cure for HIV. In 2023, Jonah Sacha, Ph.D., led a study that shone new light on the molecular mechanisms and immune responses behind five individuals who’d been cured of HIV. Those groundbreaking insights will illuminate the roadmap to HIV-specific immunotherapies. https://lnkd.in/gsentkmC

Starting today, you can embark on a magical journey through the heart of Downtown Portland with Coraline's Curious Cat Trail, a free, family-friendly art trail in celebration of the 15th anniversary of LAIKA Studios' debut film Coraline. The trail features 30 sculptures from a variety of local artists, including a design by Rosie, a curious and clever 9-year-old who doesn't let anything slow her down. Rosie loves to paint, dance barefoot in her backyard and snuggle with her family's six cats. She and her family have developed close relationships with her care teams at Oregon Health & Science University Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, and she receives ongoing care at the hospital for spina bifida. Be sure to see Rosie’s larger-than-life sculpture while the trail is open through October 13! #coralinescuriouscattrail Learn more about Rosie and the art trail: https://lnkd.in/ggNpzPdR

July is National Cleft and Craniofacial Awareness and Prevention Month. Babies with cleft lip and palate do best when they get care starting soon after birth, and when they see specialists who can treat related dental, feeding, speaking and hearing issues. Oregon Health & Science University can provide all of that. https://lnkd.in/g6THTytn

OHSU researchers found patients exposed to wildfire smoke during the development phase of their treatment cycle yielded fewer blastocysts, which are the many-cell embryos that develop from a fertilized egg and can be transferred for pregnancy. “Our hope is that this research informs preparedness measures that can ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients when we do face these serious air quality crises.” #OHSUResearch

Over the weekend, the Health Equity organization of OHSU Health provided free health care services at the Portland Pride Waterfront Festival, including point-of-care HIV screenings, HIV at-home test kits, and STI education. In partnership with the School of Dentistry, the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Services and Russell Street Dental clinic, community members also had access to free head and neck cancer screening and oral health exams. The Health Equity organization’s mission is to provide accessible health care services to all patients by removing barriers and providing an affirming and inclusive clinical experience. #OHSUPride
