Director LeeAnne Cornyn helped cut the ribbon on the East Palestine Resiliency Center, which will provide renewed access to the tools and strategies to cultivate resilience and strengthen the spirit of the community. OhioMHAS was awarded two SAMHSA Emergency Response Grants totaling more than $1 million to provide immediate mental health support, and long-term services, including treatment, counseling, and wellness promotion to residents of East Palestine. More than 17 months after the train derailment, the people of East Palestine are continuing to demonstrate their resilience, and the creation of this center is a testament to that.

Governor Mike DeWine kicked off the H.B. 2 Capital Budget Bill signing by once again highlighting his commitment to prioritizing mental health. This bill will support his goal of enhancing Ohio's behavioral healthcare system. With this budget, OhioMHAS will build a new mental health hospital in the Miami Valley, adding over 200 beds and featuring designs to promote patient recovery through evidence-based practices. The budget also funds improvements for Ohio's six hospitals, more recovery homes, and expanded youth centers to build resilience and connection among young people.

OhioMHAS Chief of Staff John Annarino reaffirmed Governor DeWine’s commitment to the mental health of Ohioans during the groundbreaking for Dani’s Place in Toledo, Ohio. Named in memory of Danielle “Dani” Leedy, who died by suicide in 2019, the mental health rehabilitation center will provide care to those leaving in-patient hospitalization, but not yet well enough to return to the community. Thanks to our partners at NAMI OHIO and Mental Health & Recovery Services Board of Lucas County for their work to bring this model of care to Northwest Ohio.
