OAPSLO’s Kenneth Kukral By: Terry Quested, President, OAPSLO 2023/2024 Since learning the surprising and deeply sad news Ken passed away last weekend I’ve been lost for words, but as his long-time colleague and friend in the specialty lines insurance world I’m compelled to share a few things about the professional I knew. I’d met Ken in the mid 1990s, his International Excess wholesale operation was the epitome of an independent wholesaler seeking to bring variety and the best solutions for hard-to-place insurances for his clients in and around Ohio. Ken was a Board member integrally involved with OAPSLO, as he sought to bring new blood to the organization he encouraged and chided me to attend a meeting. In 2002 I took his bait and recognizing his, and other’s commitments, my 20+ years involvement with OAPSLO has been to emulate the selfless example he set to improve things for our industry practitioners. Ken was always a cheerful person, combined with unfailing dedication, expert knowledge, willingness to lend a hand, volunteer, take charge of an issue and execute whatever the work or project. Simply, Ken was the consummate insurance professional with integrity, a passion for thoroughness and excellence. If you ever worked with Ken you’ll recall your own similar and positive experiences. As we reflect on our memories of Ken and the untimely and cruel nature of his passing so young, it’s hard to imagine the heartbreaking loss his family and closest friends are feeling. Ken set an example with his kindness, faithfulness, and professionalism for us all to follow, he’s dearly missed. On behalf of OAPSLO colleagues and myself we commit our thoughts and prayers for his family, friends, colleagues and clients whose world is a better place because we got to know Ken Kukral. Rest In Peace, my friend.
