Elevating Legacy of Excellence to Advance Endless Optical Possibilities
About us
Ocean Optics pioneered miniature spectrometers and delivers spectral solutions to researchers, OEMs and industrial customers, also designs and builds industrial-grade photonics systems for material inspection, chemical identification and quality assurance. Our mission is to lead in creating precise yet practical optical solutions that enable researchers and industry to solve meaningful problems in health, safety and the environment. We have discovered, refined and delivered new approaches to solving problems with spectroscopy and imaging technologies. Backed by deep experience, we are working within applications including academia & research, energy, environmental, food & agriculture, general manufacturing, medical technology, pharmaceutical, semiconductor, and transportation. We partner with customers to achieve ambitious goals, leveraging the power of light for advancement in health, safety and the environment. OUR HISTORY Ocean Optics started in the late ‘80s, seeded by a federal grant for a marine pH sensor. As part of their work, the Ocean team needed a compact spectrometer to fit into a small, underwater housing, and were surprised to discover none existed. So, they made their own. Founder Mike Morris started the evolution of spectrometers from floor unit-sized to handheld. By 1992, the “world’s first miniature spectrometer” ushered in a new way of utilizing spectroscopy. Today, our technologies have evolved, our offering has expanded, and our customers remain vital partners.

Join us in celebrating the efforts of scientists, activists, businesses, and communities who are working to better understand, appreciate, and protect the world’s oceans. 🌊💙 #WorldOceansDay Over the years, Ocean Optics has collaborated with incredible scientists and institutions dedicated to maintaining and protecting natural marine ecosystems. One such collaboration with the Georgia Aquarium showcases the power of #spectroscopy. The Water Quality Team at Georgia Aquarium utilized advanced optical sensing technology, including #spectrometers and accessories, to create optimal conditions for their marine habitats. By using Ocean Optics spectrometers, the team discovered how light conditions impact aquatic life. Through these efforts, they enhanced the health and well-being of aquarium inhabitants and gained invaluable insights for maintaining and protecting natural marine ecosystems. #OceanOptics #GeorgiaAquarium #MarineConservation #ProtectOurOceans #WaterQuality #HealthyOceans

Today, as we celebrate #WorldEnvironmentDay, let's acknowledge the key contributions of spectroscopy in protecting our environment. Spectroscopy empowers us with the knowledge to make informed decisions, foster sustainability, and create a healthier planet for future generations. With Ocean Optics spectrometers, we measure what matters. Happy World Environment Day! 🌱🌿🌳 How are Ocean Optics spectrometers and technology addressing critical environmental challenges? • Land Restoration: Spectroscopy is pivotal in assessing soil degradation and guiding restoration efforts. By analyzing soil properties and health, communities can implement targeted measures to rehabilitate degraded lands, improving fertility and productivity. • Desertification: In arid regions, spectroscopy helps monitor vegetation cover and soil conditions. This data is crucial for early detection of desertification processes, allowing for timely interventions to halt or reverse land degradation. • Drought Resilience: Spectroscopy enables the assessment of water content in soil and plants. This information helps in managing water resources efficiently, supporting agricultural practices that enhance drought resilience and ensure food security. #GenerationRestoration
