NYC's only hands-on science and technology center. Serving the most diverse audience of any science center in the U.S.

About us

Since its founding at the 1964-65 New York World’s Fair, the New York Hall of Science (NYSCI) has inspired millions of people—children, teachers, and families– by offering creative, participatory ways to learn and encouraging people to explore their curiosity and nurture their creativity. Located in Queens, the most ethnically diverse county in the country, NYSCI welcomes 500,000 visitors each year and serves thousands more through outreach in schools, teacher professional development, and participation in a variety of public events and research initiatives. NYSCI is a leader in the science museum field, recognized for its highly regarded exhibitions, programs, and products, all of which are informed by strategies of engagement called Design, Make, Play. The defining characteristics of Design, Make, Play — open-ended exploration, imaginative learning, personal relevance, deep engagement, and delight — are the ingredients that inspire passionate science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) learners. NYSCI engages diverse communities of learners, particularly young people, in STEM, by fostering the excitement of self-directed exploration and by tapping into the joy of learning intrinsic in young people’s play. Our transformative model for STEM exploration invites broad participation and makes engagement and learning irresistible. NYSCI has approximately 80 full-time and over 65 part-time staff members.

Our Director of Science Coaching at New York Hall of Science Jasmine Maldonado M.S. Ed. reflecting while closing out the fiscal/school year: "Lots of amazing accomplishments that I'm so very proud of, particularly with our PreK STEAM work. We just got the grants to continue our important science coaching work at three centers in the network and won't stop until we hit all 15! For now, we are focusing on writing our new "STEAM Stories: Space Edition" PreK activity book over the summer and making the science kits to go along with them. Next school year is going to be a blast - 😉 "

In May, we had the honor of hosting the talented Pan American International High School Theater students as the venue for the community premier of their original play "Patelito." This wonderful production took the movie “Entre Nos” by the amazing Paola Mendoza and incorporated current themes around the struggles of street vendors and of new migrants in NYC more generally. We also invited visitors to contribute to a "Who makes you strong?" post-it board to engage the community in the theme of the show. Some responses can be seen in these photos, along with others from the production. Thank you to everyone who made it possible: Catalina Cruz, Paola Mendoza, Great Adventure Grant from the producers of Kimberly Akimbo on Broadway, as well as community partners including, MetroPlusHealth, Lyft, RDS, Monroe College, the Street Vendor Project, Mr. Helio & Principal Velez!
