NEST is a community-based network of programs working towards social, environmental, and economic justice in our region.
About us
The Network for a Sustainable Tomorrow is a community-based network of programs working towards social, environmental, and economic justice and equity in our region. NEST catalyzes and convenes new initiatives and partnerships, and does outreach and education to build a stronger and and more resilient Southern Tier. NEST was founded in 2008 as the Binghamton Regional Sustainability Coalition (BRSC) out of a series of community forums on sustainability and a community visioning session. NEST is working to become a regional information clearinghouse to promote new and existing sustainability efforts, a source for sustainability training and education, a center for networking and coordination and an advocacy group that builds community support for public policies that further our mission. Building Local Living Communities …for Today and Tomorrow NEST’s purposes broadly cover activities and initiatives in the areas of clean energy, zero waste, environmental responsibility, community economic development, food production and other essential life systems, and social justice -- among other community concerns. To accomplish the ultimate vision of building the kind of community we wish to live in today and the kind of community we wish to pass on to future generations, NEST: 1) Advocates, informs, communicates, and mobilizes the community; 2) Connects and coordinates like-minded groups and individuals; and, 3) Incubates projects that will lead to a more sustainable future.
