About us
No Show, A Travel Industry Podcast is about the business of travel: hotels, tourism, technology, changing consumer tastes, the conference industry, and you actually get for $50 worth of resort fees. Hosts Jeff Borman and Matt Brown explore the strange and beautiful intersection of design, architecture, place, emotion, and memory. When we travel, we pass through that intersection, held up by a fleet of dedicated (and patient) professionals. Follow us at https://open.spotify.com/show/1yq7GYLFlAbwzakJcj3o3l

I enjoyed my conversation with Philip Russo at Commercial Observer about the future of hotel technology, especially as summer travel season gets into full spring. I also appreciated the thoughtful perspectives of Mike Scott at Derive Ventures and Raja Ghawi at Era Ventures as well. Take a read! https://lnkd.in/g7V-3-S8

There will be no party when the Mirage Hotel & Casino closes next week, because 3,000 employees will be laid off. The nearly 34-year-old casino hotel will be remade into a splashy Hard Rock Hotel, including the addition of a guitar shaped tower with 600 suites. Longtime Mirage fans have been making last-minute pilgrimages to say goodbye to the hotel on the 50-yard line of the The Strip. I checked in for two nights for this report.

As Isaac Collazo and I have discussed at length, „bifurcation“ is the name of the game in the hotel industry this summer. Thanks to the NYT for using my quote and putting it next to the always insightful Adam Sacks. STR CoStar News

The price equates to $1m/key, but that's ~$66m less than the owner paid. The current data / outlook for NYC is a bit like a Rorschach test - you see what you want to see. It'll be interesting to find out who "sees" the upside here...

On a NEW No Show Arlene Ramirez and Tanya Venegas help us untangle and understand the Uniform System of Accounts for the Lodging Industry (#USALI), which guides financial management and reporting across hotels. How it started, why hotels use it, and how it's staying up-to-date. Jeff Borman will nod sagely throughout and Matt Brown will hang on for dear life, per usual. https://lnkd.in/e_MN6Y8t
