🇳🇱🇺🇸We had an incredible culmination of the Chicago Agrifood Scaleup Program 2024 with the roundtable hosted by Chicago Council on Global Affairs and the networking reception at citizenM! These events brought together innovators and leaders passionate about shaping the future of agrifood. 💡The roundtable discussion, moderated by Eric Larson, was enlightening - delving into critical topics surrounding sustainability, innovation, and the global agrifood landscape. It underscored the importance of international cooperation in addressing food deserts and supply chain issues, amongst others. 🍫The reception hosted on the beautiful terrace of citizenM hotels in Chicago has not only fostered meaningful connections but has also ignited a spirit of collaboration that will hopefully continue between the Netherlands and the Midwest. Credits for the lively discussions go to Tony's Chocolonely for fueling them. Looking forward to exploring more collaborative opportunities between The Netherlands and the Midwest as we share the drive and excellence in the agriculture and food systems. 🌱💡 Cano-ela | Dutch Lion | GreenAnt | Pacha de Cacao | Skytree | Source.ag | InnovationQuarter | Rotterdam Partners | Netherlands Enterprise Agency

A packed Wednesday of company visits brought the Dutch companies of the Chicago AgriFood Scaleup Program to the fringes of Chicagoland and back to explore the whole spectrum of the growing cycle, from seed innovation and horticulture at Ball Horticultural Company's beautiful campus to open field farming at Klein's Farm in Kane County to controlled-environment mushroom cultivation and regenerative agriculture at Four Star Mushrooms. Chicago, the state of Illinois, and the broader Midwest are the heart of the American agriculture and food system, encompassing farming, distribution and logistics, and food manufacturing—all areas where the Netherlands also has deep expertise. The visits were an insightful look into what works in an American agriculture context, what doesn't, where the food systems are heading, and how Dutch and American companies can work together to grow healthier, more sustainable crops with more efficient use of waste streams. Many thanks to our hosts at Ball Horticultural Company, Four Star Mushrooms, and Klein's Farm. The Chicago leg of our 2024 Chicago AgriFood Scaleup Program kicked off on Monday and Tuesday with the selected Dutch scaleups visiting #IFTFirst and Rabobank. When it comes to food systems, the Netherlands combines groundbreaking science with deep expertise in areas as diverse as ingredient innovation, creative use of waste streams, sustainability, and supply chains—but also sophisticated financing in agriculture and food as well. It's inspiring to bring these innovative Dutch scaleups into the capital of the American agrifood industry to connect with the US ecosystem and discuss, well, capital—amongst other activities, Foodbytes by Rabobank hosted a fascinating conversation on raising money in the US at Rabobank's gorgeous office overlooking the Chicago River.
