UnitedHealth Group is predicting their cyberattack will cost them almost $2.5 billion in 2024. According to their financial statements, their profits are down over $1 billion since the same period last year, largely due to these ballooning costs of the breach. The incident paralyzed their billing and payment system and triggered a shutdown of systems that left doctors "without the ability to get insurance approval of patient services." An American Medical Association survey earlier this year found 80% of all physicians reported lost revenue from unpaid claims due to the attack. Customers across the UK have reported an apparent outage with Vodafone. Reports have suggested that thousands were affected, with most complaints arising from London. AT&T has suffered a massive data breach which has leaked the call and text records of nearly all of their customers. The leak included records from 5/1/22 to 10/31/22, as well as 1/2/23 for some of their customers. Bloomberg reported that AT&T paid nearly $400,000 to hackers to delete the information. Clay County (IN) has declared a Local Disaster Declaration after a ransomware incident. The attack caused the courthouse, community corrections, and probation office to close. Evolve Bank & Trust has confirmed that almost 8 million people had their data stolen by the LockBit cyber-attack in late May. The company expects that number to increase as their investigation continues. They continued, estimating it took them around 4 months to identify they had been breached, despite having a “significant number of cybersecurity measures in place.” Evolve’s disclosure mentioned that SSNs, bank account numbers, and contact information for “most” of its customers and partners may have been affected, along with some of its own staff. The Florida Department of Health (DOH) is the latest victim is a slew of cyber attacks targeting both government agencies and healthcare firms alike. The DOH confirmed that it is having issues with its “vital statistics” systems and has had to slow down in administering local services, like issuing birth and death certificates. The hacker group is allegedly demanding a ransom to both restore the DOH’s systems and also to not leak sensitive citizen data on the dark web. The town of Apex in North Carolina suffered a ransomware attack on Thursday that knocked the town network offline. Residents have been unable to pay bills or apply for permits electronically. Municipal employees have resorted to doing tasks manually because of the cybersecurity incident impacting the town. "Nothing more about the cybercriminals is known at this time, including their demand – and in compliance with North Carolina law, the Town of Apex has not and will not communicate with, negotiate with, nor make payment to those responsible for this incident," said a spokesperson for the township. There have been more than 23,000 user reports that Xbox Live has had an outage. The reports came from users who had been logged in to the site. Many indicated that they were having issues logging in. HubSpot, the popularly used software for sales and marketing teams, has had a data breach. The Cambridge, MA company said that the unidentified hackers are continuing to target a limited number of HubSpot customers and attempting to gain unauthorized access to their HubSpot accounts.
