We equip and empower first generation, under-resourced students through college and into their careers.
About us
Next Generation Scholars equips and empowers first generation, under-resourced Marin County middle and high school students to succeed in college and beyond through socially-conscious leadership development. Grounded in individualized academic and social support for them and their families, our students are emboldened to address the inequities in the world, both for themselves and for their communities. Next Generation Scholars combines a rigorous academic program with community building activities and wrap-around social services. All elements of the program are approached through the lens of ethnic studies and social justice. Next Generation Scholars' lectures, events, projects, and personal interactions are all rooted in providing our students with a clear, proud, multi-cultural education. It is of utmost importance that all of our students see themselves as active forces for change within our community.

Did you know NGS also provides programming to strengthen families? Two Sundays ago, we hosted a workshop on how parents can develop healthy relationships with their teenagers and how they can navigate their children’s lives during the unique teenage development stage of their lives. Thank you to our workshop facilitator Berta Campos- Anicetti and shout out to @rodas_stills for the amazing photos!

We are incredibly excited to share NGS's first-ever magazine. Flip through for a look back at students and staff, a vision forward, and an homage to the organization's co-founders, Sally Matsuishi and Kenji Treanor! Flip through for a look back on 20 years— A bunch of big shoutouts to project manager Ruby Veridiano for executing this vision for us, graphic design by Chelsea Red-Horse Rasmussen, and featured stories from Sonia Chinai, Peter Hiep A, MBA, Johny Ek Aban, Abraham Ek Lopez, Alba Alvarado, Adriana Alvarado Sandoval, and Alejandro Alvarado for letting us spotlight their journeys. ".... Let us honor the last two decades, standing on the shoulders of the past and looking ahead to the next twenty years (and beyond!)."

Did you know NGS uplifts 1st grade through 5th grade, too? The "Little Scholars" program was an idea born from heartache. The pain of watching our Scholars learn online from their closets and bathrooms while caring for their little siblings, we had to do something about it. That idea has quickly become one of our signature programs in four years. Little Scholars has grown over 240% since its start. Today, we continue to provide Marin’s first-generation youth with a tuition-free, five-week summer program for elementary-grade students. The program's objectives have grown from being a summer daycare for kids to becoming a robust academic, leadership, and wellness program for youth ages 6-10. Are you curious to see our programs firsthand? Register for a visit this month! https://lnkd.in/gim88xiX https://lnkd.in/gWm_uxAY
