Back in early 2023, our team could see from the ColdTrace data platform that many of our vaccine monitoring devices had stopped sending data. That meant our technology was not fully delivering on its promise to provide Ministries of Health with an end-to-end view of vaccine cold chain performance. To tackle this challenge, our in-country teams quickly mobilized, visiting health facilities, troubleshooting offline devices, and reinforcing training on RTM data use. Within a few months, we were able to restore nearly 90% of devices to active status, ensuring that our partner countries have the tools to protect vaccine potency. Read more about this initiative and our ongoing work to help countries achieve and sustain digital transformation in our recent report! #dataforgood #digitaltransformation #systemschange #vaccines

For cold chain tech to effectively protect vaccines, we must build and sustain a workforce of data champions armed with the tools and skills to respond to alerts and address malfunctioning equipment. At Nexleaf, we've seen the power of RTM trainings to revolutionize the way vaccine workers do their jobs. Kudos to Uganda and UNICEF for focusing not only on data access, but data use as a cornerstone of their approach! #vaccines #dataforgood #digitaltransformation
To enhance the performance monitoring of Cold Chain Equipment (CCE), greater emphasis on the active utilization of temperature monitoring data through Remote Temperature Monitoring Devices (RTMDs) is essential. Strengthening the use of RTMD data is crucial to ensure rapid response times and the implementation of preventive and corrective actions to protect vaccine potency. Last week, UNICEF, in collaboration with the Government of Uganda, successfully conducted a training workshop focused on developing an RTMD Data Use Strategy for the members of the Uganda National Logistics Working Group (NLWG). This initiative was carried out in close coordination with UNICEF's PG HQ, Regional Office, and Country Office. This is one of a series of country training sessions targeting effective use of temperature data for maintenance and management of the cold chain. AI tools have the potential to transform healthcare in Africa—but only if countries have meaningful, accurate data inputs to power them. Whether AI solutions succeed in reducing health inequality and improving patient outcomes depends on the availability of high-quality, automation-ready datasets that represent the specific needs and realities of the health systems they serve. Africa Health Ventures' ongoing AI for Health podcast series takes a look at the current landscape for AI-enabled healthcare across the continent, highlighting recent research and innovations and debating important questions of equity, efficacy, and sustainability. Check out the latest episode of the series, which focuses on the risks and promises of large language models in the African healthcare context! #AIforHealth #dataforgood #globalhealth
"There's a lot of hype about what generative AI and LLMs like ChatGPT will do to improve healthcare in Africa and around the world - but is it going to work?" On the Africa Health Ventures podcast, Bilal A Mateen (ED of Digital Square) and Tobi Olatunji MD (Founder and CEO of Intron Health) sat down with Rowena Luk to discuss the largest study ever done on how LLMs such as #ChatGPT will - and won't - work for healthcare in Africa. The upcoming AfriMed-QA project will evaluate 20 LLMs over 32 clinical specialties across 15 countries in Africa. This study is made possible through the support of Google Research, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and Digital Square at PATH. Implementing partners include Masakhane, SisonkeBiotik, and Bio-RAMP Labs. 🎧 Tune in wherever you get your podcasts: https://lnkd.in/efmBtvzk

We're proud to partner with IOM - UN Migration to ensure that migrant children receive safe and effective vaccines, wherever they're located. Used in refugee health clinics in more than 30 countries across Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, Nexleaf's ColdTrace technology is a simple, cost-effective tool for tackling the healthcare access gap. #WorldRefugeeDay #globalhealth #healthcareinnovation
Healthcare is as much a migrants' right as anyone else. Migrants are no different that you and me - and they must be treated as much.

Ensuring that health workers have access to training and resources rooted in the best available evidence is a key component of health systems transformation. Kudos to GIZ Tanzania and EAC and the Tanzania Ministry of Health for raising the bar on newborn care! #DayOfTheAfricanChild #newbornhealth #healthcareinnovation
(1/3) #DayOfTheAfricanChild 🌟Creating a bright future for African children through better health care for newborns🌟 Pregnancy and birth are filled with potential risks, including premature birth and delivery complications. However, comprehensive antenatal, obstetric, and newborn care can significantly mitigate these risks, leading to happier and healthier babies, mothers, and families. At GIZ IHCP, we are proud to support the Tanzanian Ministry of Health in updating their newborn care guidelines, especially as we are nearing the Day of the African Child. These guidelines, rooted in the latest advances in neonatology, pediatrics, gynecology, and early childhood development, will empower midwives, nurses, and doctors with evidence-based practices to make the best care decisions. Once finalized, these guidelines will be instrumental in training healthcare workers across Tanzania, ensuring every newborn has the chance to survive and thrive. GIZ's commitment extends to the Tanga Region, where we collaborate with regional and local authorities to enhance access to top-quality healthcare for babies. #Healthcare #NewbornCare #MaternalHealth #ChildDevelopment #EvidenceBasedCare #GIZ #Tanzania #HealthyStart #GlobalHealth #AntenatalCare #Obstetrics #Pediatrics #EarlyChildhoodDevelopment #AfricanChild
