Platelets, essential for blood clotting and wound healing, have a shelf life of only 7 days. Regular donors like Eric are invaluable in keeping platelets prepared for patients. Are you a part of our #PlateletPact? Present to donate platelets two times or more before September 2 and get a gift card as our way of saying thanks! Join here: nybc.org/pact

NYBC is one of the largest community-based, non-profit blood collection and distribution organizations in the U.S.
About us
Founded in 1964, New York Blood Center (NYBC) is a nonprofit organization that is one of the largest independent, community-based blood centers in the world. NYBC, along with its partner organizations Community Blood Center of Kansas City, Missouri (CBC), Innovative Blood Resources (IBR), Blood Bank of Delmarva (BBD), and Rhode Island Blood Center (RIBC), collect approximately 4,000 units of blood products each day and serve local communities of more than 45 million people in the Tri-State area (NY, NJ, CT), Mid Atlantic area (PA, DE, MD), the Kansas City metropolitan area, Minnesota, Nebraska, Rhode Island, and Southern New England. NYBC and its partners also provide a wide array of transfusion-related medical services, including Comprehensive Cell Solutions, the National Center for Blood Group Genomics, the National Cord Blood Program, and the Lindsley F. Kimball Research Institute, which — among other milestones — developed the Hepatitis B vaccine and a patented solvent detergent plasma process innovating blood-purification technology worldwide.

On July 4th, our Elmsford, Fishkill, and Rockville Centers held extra special VIP Platelet donor parties, featuring food and fun to attract donors and staff alike on a critical holiday. Elmsford continued its Donor Barbecue tradition, collecting 75 platelets in a day, with custom "Elmsford Crew" t-shirts made by donor Debbie. Fishkill hosted an indoor barbecue for triple platelet donors, while Rockville Centre held a successful VIP Donor event, resulting in 80 more donations! Sincerest thanks to every colleague who made these holiday collections possible! We're looking forward to seeing the next one on Labor Day. #NYBCe #Platelets #Elmsford #Rockville #Fishkill

A familiar face to our team and donors alike, NYBC Volunteer Gail Cohen was recently featured as the NY1 News New Yorker of the Week, recognizing her four decades relationship with New York Blood Center. Donating her first time in 1984, Gail has donated blood or platelets more than 100 times and volunteers several times monthly at blood drives around NY. Gail is a true lifesaver, and we're so proud to see her hard work recognized 👏 #VolunteerRecognition

There, they distributed educational materials and spoke with community members about HIV prevention, vaccine research, and intervention trials.

Happy Pride NYC! We're so proud to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community today and one of our own – Grand Marshal DaShawn Usher. DaShawn's work with Project Achieve at New York Blood Center Enterprises laid the groundwork for founding Mobilizing Our Brothers Initiative (MOBI), an organization dedicated to fostering social connectivity and personal development for Black gay and queer individuals. "MOBI was birthed out of NYBC. While at Project Achieve, we identified a gap between research and reality, which inspired the creation of MOBI to provide lifesaving information and support to the community," DaShawn explained. Learn more about DaShawn's nearly 20-year career in healthcare advocacy, and don't forget to say "hi" if you see him at today's parade! *wave*

🌟 Exciting Collaboration Alert! 🌟 New York City Council Member Mercedes Narcisse and New York Blood Center have teamed up with longtime NYBC friend, Sickle Cell Warrior Stacey Sottile to emphasize the importance of blood donations for those with Sickle Cell Disease. Narcisse emphasized the vital role of blood donations for patients with sickle cell disease. "One in three Black and African American donors is a match for Sickle Cell patients, making these donations incredibly impactful," said Narcisse. Blood transfusions are essential for managing sickle cell disease, providing a crucial lifeline during sickle cell crises. Council Member Narcisse is actively involved in the legislative efforts of two NYC Council bills aiming to educate medical professionals about sickle cell disease and its treatment, and another hoping to provide the NYC Council with data on students with sickle cell disease.
