Independent since 1906, we empower people through sport and craftsmanship to create positive change around the world.

About us

In 1906, New Balance began as a humble one-man operation founded on the belief that “we were born to move,” and has since grown into an international corporation, selling footwear and apparel in over 120 countries and employing over 8,000 associates worldwide. Our mission has always been to support the performance of athletes, and with an unparalleled focus on quality and craftsmanship, we’ve come to set the standard for comfort and fit in an industry all too often driven by hype. We’re incredibly proud of our history and how far we’ve come, but companies don’t thrive for over a century by being content. Whether it’s setting a new style trend, retooling our manufacturing process, or building a new state-of-the-art headquarters, we pursue innovation with a spirit of fearless independence. As the only privately held major footwear company in the world, we’re free to do things our way, pushing limits and testing boundaries as we continually reimagine what could be. After all, the status quo isn’t static. But doing things our way wouldn’t mean much if we weren’t also doing them the right way. We invest in our associates as they invest in us, and as we move forward, we make a point of giving back, supporting communities around us through ambitious philanthropic efforts and involvement programs. We are a company that cares, and our culture is one of integrity and teamwork where together we become greater than the sum of our parts.

In a celebratory event honoring our longstanding commitment to domestic manufacturing, New Balance broke ground last year on the expansion of our athletic footwear manufacturing factory in Skowhegan, Maine. This month, New Balance associates gathered for a tour of the new space and signed a ceremonial steel beam that will be incorporated in the facility upon completion. For more than 40 years, New Balance has proudly supported the Skowhegan community in Maine, which is home to one of our five owned MADE manufacturing facilities in the U.S. We look forward to the opening of the 120,000-square-foot-single-story addition, which showcases our pride in the American craftmanship and innovation of our Maine associates. Check out these photos from our ceremonial beam signing! (New Balance MADE U.S. footwear contains a domestic value of 70% or more and makes up a limited portion of New Balance’s U.S. sales). #domesticmanufacturing

This year’s Global Footwear Product Development Summit was a testament to the incredible power of in-person collaboration. The global team came together to build energy and positive momentum ahead of our upcoming go-to-market reviews.     The event kicked off at our Boston Headquarters, where we hosted associates from Footwear Development teams across our Lawrence, Brighton, Warrington and Tokyo sites, along with other cross-functional partner representatives. These in-person sessions allowed for an incredible day of interaction, sharing and learning.     The summit started with an early pickleball session before kicking off into a packed agenda, with sessions focused on sustainability, new technology, digital operations and how to manage work life integration.     Thank you to everyone who participated in this year’s product development summit – check out some photos from the experience!

New Balance Foundation has been a longtime supporter of Two Ten Footwear Foundation and its mission of lifting lives by bringing hope and opportunity to people in the footwear community. Over the years, Two Ten has been a great resource to our associates and larger footwear community. All regular full-and part-time New Balance associates are eligible for Two Ten assistance from the first day of employment. Thank you, Two Ten, for 85 years of positively impacting our industry and providing hope, support and opportunity to our associates, families and communities.

I recently joined Shawn Osborne for the Two Ten Footwear Foundation Gala to celebrate 85 years of their tremendous service to our footwear community.  The idea of “shoe people helping shoe people” inspired Two Ten’s founding in the wake of the Great Depression. The organization took its name from 210 Lincoln Street in Boston where industry members first met to pass the hat and help colleagues in need.    Eighty-five years later, Two Ten still represents hope in hard times and the opportunity to rise as a truly unique resource, funded by our industry for the benefit of those who work in our industry. Thanks to the generosity of its supporters, Two Ten offers lifelines to footwear families experiencing disaster or hardship, providing emergency financial assistance, counseling and other resources to help stabilize households in crisis. Two Ten also provides footwear employees life-changing programs including college scholarships, upskilling grants, networking and professional development opportunities.    I am honored to serve as Two Ten’s Board Chair and encourage everyone in our industry to support and engage in the opportunities that Two Ten represents. Thank you to the Two Ten team and all those who contribute to their empowering work!

New Balance associates around the world celebrated Global Running Day with a week-long steps challenge. With more than 7,000 miles (about 11,000 km) logged across 18 countries, participants covered a lot of ground. Whether they were walking their dogs, setting new PRs, or gathering with coworkers for a lunch run – we loved seeing everyone lace up and get moving!

New Balance recognizes the significance in giving back to the communities we serve, and through local volunteer initiatives, we aim to create lasting connections and positive impact. Throughout the year, we encourage our associates who have a strong personal connection to a charity or cause to take advantage of our volunteer opportunities.    Members of our New Balance Iberia team, along with their families, supported Montes de Viso (Redondela) last month by reforesting damaged land and planting 60 birch trees. Montes de Viso is a forest located 4km away from our NB Iberia office, and in 2017, the land suffered from a devastating fire. The volunteer activity allowed our associates and their families to learn first-hand about the work community members carry out in the local forests, including sustainable forest management, reforestation and the benefits of biodiversity.    Thank you to all our associates who participated in this event!

New Balance associates around the globe gathered to celebrate “Grey Days” — a celebration of the connection between our heritage and the enduring legacy of our signature color. Decked out in their finest NB “groutfits” (grey outfits), associates enjoyed refreshments, photo booths, raffles, and screenings of our “Grey Days” short film. Grey brings us together.
