NCBHS is a comprehensive mental health delivery system with hospital campuses in Sacramento and Santa Rosa
About us
The Northern California Behavioral Health System (NCBHS) is a comprehensive mental health services delivery system offering inpatient and outpatient services at various levels of care. The System consists of two hospital campuses, one each in the Santa Rosa and Sacramento areas. Santa Rosa Behavioral Healthcare Hospital (SRBHH) was opened in 2013, and is regarded as an integral part of the greater Santa Rosa and Northern California mental health system of care. Conveniently located in the North Bay, this hospital consists of 144 acute psychiatric inpatient beds and an outpatient treatment center. Sacramento Behavioral Healthcare Hospital (SBHH) is a new facility located near downtown Sacramento. As the first newly constructed psychiatric hospital in Northern California in more than 30 years, this hospital offers 117 inpatient acute psychiatric beds, an outpatient treatment center, and a procedures clinic providing electro-convulsive therapy (ECT) and other interventional psychiatry services. Both hospitals offer a full range of individualized treatment services for youth, teens, adults, and senior adults, including treatment for mental health and co-occurring (mental health and substance abuse) disorders. Additional services include mental health and substance abuse screening, assessment, crisis intervention, consultation, education, and individual and group counseling.

Sometimes it’s hard to know where to start. If you’re struggling with addiction or recovery, Mental Health America’s peer support specialists are here to help. To try it, text "hello" to 703-643-4554. Our line is FREE (for United States residents) and operates from 10 a.m. to midnight Eastern Time (7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Pacific), Monday through Friday (excluding holidays). P.S. This line is more than a one-time conversation or crisis text line. Our peers will stay with you and help you on your journey for as long as you need them. 💙 Thank you to the Elevance Health Foundation for supporting this program.

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Melanie Nelson, LCSW. Melanie joined Sacramento Behavioral Healthcare Hospital on October 17, 2022 and served as its CEO since. Melanie was known to be a kind & caring professional who very successfully led the SBHH family through its early infancy as a new hospital. We will miss her smile, her warmth, and her compassionate approach to the staff and patients here at the hospital.

Today marks the beginning of Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month Bebe Moore Campbell was a literary trailblazer, who used her words in books including, “The 72-Hour Hold” and “Sometimes My Mommy Gets Angry,” to address the profound impact of racism, mental health and the enduring strength of culture, community and connections. However, her impact extended beyond her literary works. She co-founded NAMI Urban Los Angeles and became a national change agent whose groundbreaking work revolutionized the way we approach mental health in underserved communities. She recognized and understood the detrimental consequences of silence rooted in stigma — one of the reasons for the lack of mental health care and treatment within communities of color. CW: This post mentions suicide. Last year, men who identified as LGBTQ+ screened “at risk” for a mental health condition with Mental Health America’s online screening tool more often than men who did not. Discrimination against LGBTQ+ people has also been associated with high rates of mental health conditions, substance abuse, and suicide. For Pride and Men’s Mental Health Month, we want to remind you that taking care of your mental health is vital. You are not alone. 💙 Find more resources for Pride at mhanational.org/pride If you’re struggling or in crisis, help is available. Call or text 988 or chat online at 988lifeline.org. You can also reach a trained counselor at The Trevor Project at 866-488-7386 and Trans Lifeline at 877-565-8860.
