"When the war broke out, the curiosity of 'if we could do something about it' grew each day," says Ernestas Zvaigzdinas, the lead of BROSWARM, a Lithuanian defence and security start-up that is developing advanced mine detection technology and is the winner of the #NATO #Innovation Challenge. The challenge focused on the critical issue of remote explosive-contaminated area recognition and neutralization, emphasizing key factors such as speed, efficiency, safety, and minimal human intervention. BROSWARM's solution effectively addressed each of these criteria. The utilization of drone technology inherently improves safety by removing human personnel from the minefield. Battlefield Innovation: representatives from the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence, participated in the premier NATO's interoperability exercise, #CWIX'24, hosted by NATO Allied Command Transformation (ACT). They tested a unique and robust Ukrainian battlespace management system called DELTA for its #interoperability within a #NATO environment. DELTA is a system developed for and by the military. It is the largest Ukrainian integration platform and national data lake that operates in the cloud. It is unique in its ability to create situational awareness tools, such as a digital map platform that allows for manual information input or integration with various sensors, trackers, radars, and satellite providers. This enables users to track the location of friendly forces and identify enemy positions. NATO held a #NATOPublicForum alongside the launch of the 2024 #NATOSummit, with prominent speakers from across the Alliance discussing the international security themes of the Summit. The Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, the U.S. Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, the U.S. Secretary of Defense, Lloyd Austin, Commander, US European Command and Supreme Allied Commander Europe, General Cavoli, Prime Ministers, journalists and other leading global thinkers joined together to discuss #Ukraine, deterrence and defense, partnerships, and other aspects of international security and stability. The Public Forum is an event that aims to promote a better public understanding of #NATO's policies, goals, and decisions through dialogue and engagement with a unique and diverse group of stakeholders. NATO Allied Command Transformation (ACT) was present throughout the day with a delegation led by Supreme Allied Commander Transformation, General Lavigne, and featuring Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Transformation, General Chris Badia, Chief of Staff, Vice Admiral Guy Robinson CB OBE, and Deputy Chief of Staff for Capability Development, Vice Admiral Jeff Hughes. One of the key themes of the discussions was the launch of the NATO Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine. NATO will take over the coordination and provision of most international security assistance, with a command led by a three-star general, with hundreds of personnel working at a NATO headquarters in Germany and at logistical nodes in the eastern part of the Alliance. This will enhance Ukraine's self-defence. It will not make NATO a party to the conflict. Since Russia's full-scale invasion, Allies have provided around 4 billion euros in military aid each year. It's expected Allies will agree to sustain this level within the next year and to share the burden fairly, and to review it at our Summit in 2025, not least to ensure that Allied support is in line with Ukraine's needs. Another key theme was the possibility of Allied leaders agreeing to work more closely with the Ukrainian Armed Forces, including at a new NATO-Ukraine Joint Analysis, Training, and Education Centre in Poland and deepening cooperation on #innovation and defence industrial production. #WeAreNATO
