The National Foundation for Cancer Research would like to officially say congratulations to Dr. Dennis Slamon on becoming the newest Szent-Györgyi Prize winner! Dr. Slamon’s groundbreaking research discoveries have helped shape precision medicine for breast cancer patients. In 1987, Dr. Slamon discovered the correlation between the amplification of the HER2 gene and its association with 25–30% of human breast cancer. This discovery defined a new subtype of breast cancer. Dr. Slamon’s tireless work has helped develop a deeper understanding of the causes of breast cancer, ultimately leading to the saving of lives. We are excited to welcome and announce our two outstanding summer interns at the National Foundation for Cancer Research (NFCR)! 🎉 ✨ Ankita Mandal is joining Dr. Kornelia Polyak at Harvard Medical School. As a creative communicator, Ankita is dedicated to advancing healthcare and knowledge in underserved communities. Her passion and drive are sure to make a significant impact! ✨ Kaidi Tea Stec is continuing her incredible journey with NFCR, now working with Dr. Katherine Uyhazi at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. With a bachelor's degree in Biology and experience as an intern with us since October 2022, Kaidi brings valuable insights and dedication to our mission. We are so proud of these two incredible students interning with researchers funded by NFCR. We can't wait to see what they achieve and learn from these great internship opportunities. #Internshipopportunity #cancerresearch #biology #intern #research #makecurespossible #HarvardMedicalSchool #Harvard #Upenn #collegestudents #healthcare #cancer #researchlab #NFCR

This Glioblastoma (GBM) Awareness Day join us in the fight against this deadly disease! Today is dedicated to raising awareness surrounding GBM and the research that is still needed. Every year globally, 300,000 people are diagnosed with GBM. After diagnosis, the average patient will only have 12–18 months to live, with just 7% alive after the five-year mark. Even with decades of research, there is still much more needed to cure the disease. Join us this GBM Awareness Day to raise awareness of the struggles that these patients and their families face, along with the unmet needs in research geared towards curing the disease. #cancer #research #cancerresearch #NFCR #MakeCuresPossible #gbm #glioblastoma #brain #cancer #braincancer #braintumor #tumor #gbmawarenessday #glioblastomaawarenessday

With Glioblastoma (GBM) Awareness Day coming up tomorrow, we would like to share what NFCR is doing to combat the disease. Earlier this year we were awarded the Pioneer in Medicine Award from the World Brain Mapping Foundation and the Society for Brain Mapping & Therapeutics (SBMT) for leading from the front by creating the revolutionary clinical trial platform GBM AGILE (Glioblastoma Adaptive Global Innovative Learning Environment). This paradigm-shifting clinical trial system speeds up the clinical trial process to bring new treatments and drugs to GBM patients. For more information on what we are doing to make cures possible for Glioblastoma patients and to learn more about GBM AGILE, visit https://lnkd.in/eivvc62Z #cancer #research #glioblastoma #cancerresearch #gbm #awarenessday #gbmagile #nfcr #makecurespossible #brain #braincancer #tumor #braintumor

Glioblastoma Awareness Day is just two days away now. To help raise awareness for the most deadly of all brain cancers, we are sharing some facts regarding it and the importance of continued research surrounding the disease. The five-year survival of a patient diagnosed with Glioblastoma is just 6.9%, with the average length of survival being only 8 months. Further research into treatments is desperately needed. To combat the disease, NFCR has helped form the trial platform, GBM AGILE (Glioblastoma Adaptive Global Innovative Learning Environment). This platform rapidly determines if any study treatments improve the overall survival of patients when compared to standard treatments. This allows research to drive forward at a much faster pace.
