Public landowners 🤝 Private landowners Creating healthier forests for all This #NationalForestWeek, we’re highlighting our collaborative efforts with International Paper, USDA Forest Service and other partners under the Forestland Stewards Partnership to help safeguard the historical longleaf pine forests, which provides vital habitat for species like the red-cockaded woodpecker. Nature knows no boundaries, so with these partnerships, we’re enhancing the corridors that connect our public and private lands, reducing wildfire risks and promoting biodiversity. Did you know? 💡 June is #OrcaActionMonth in the Pacific Northwest and prime time to do some whale watching in the region. Killer whales are vital to the ecological and cultural fabric of the Pacific Northwest. The Southern Resident killer whale population experienced steep declines in the early 1970s and has yet to fully recover, even with increased management protection. Since 2015, we’ve supported endeavors to restore salmonid populations, improve water quality in the Salish Sea watershed, and promote a healthy food web to benefit these iconic mammals. #killerwhales #orca #orcamonth #wildlife #whale #whalewatching #conservation

Hooray for the Bay! 🎉 🎉 Today NFWF, US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Chesapeake Bay Program announced $9.6 million in new conservation grants to support the restoration and conservation of the Chesapeake Bay. The grants announced today will support local implementation of nature-based watershed restoration projects. These efforts will provide long-term water quality improvement benefits, improve habitat for at-risk species, and enhance climate resilience for human and wildlife communities. Following seasons of devastating wildfires in California, reforestation efforts are more critical than ever. Today, NFWF and USDA Forest Service announced $53 million in grants to protect and restore forests and watersheds in California. Awarded through the California Forests and Watersheds program, nine projects will focus on improving forest health and watersheds through post-fire restoration efforts, providing sustainable and lasting ecological benefits, protecting communities in and around federally protected public lands, and encouraging shared stewardship of USFS lands. The Southern Great Plains is home to a unique set of wildlife species that are specifically adapted to this wide-open stretch of grassland. Pronghorn, swift fox, prairie chicken, and other year-round residents live alongside human residents who are engaged in the ranching of livestock, primarily beef cattle. Today NFWF and partners announced nearly $7.4 million in grants through the Southern Plains Grasslands Program to improve grassland health, support biodiversity and increase carbon sequestration to improve climate resilience. By working to conserve this vital ecosystem, we’re providing essential resources to sustain and recover wildlife, increase climate resilience, and support the livelihoods of ranchers who steward this landscape. Did you know? 💡 Longleaf pine forests are some of the most biodiverse ecosystems in the world, providing habitat for 40 species listed as threatened or endangered under the Endangered Species Act. These forests also provide clean water, recreational and economic opportunities and support our national defense by buffering military installations from encroaching development. It’s essential to protect these forests! That’s why we’re excited to undertake this crucial work of restoring 8 million acres of longleaf pine habitat with the Bezos Earth Fund for a third year. The Earth Fund’s major contribution to the Longleaf Landscape Stewardship Fund helped to make this a record-breaking year for the program. Together, we’re looking forward to conserving this vital ecosystem to benefit native species, our climate and our communities! 📷: Young longleaf pine #longleaf #conservation #tree #wildlife #climate #forest

Some news we’re simply pining to share! 🌲 Today NFWF and partners announced a record-breaking $33.5 million in conservation grants from the Longleaf Landscape Stewardship Fund to safeguard some of the most biodiverse ecosystems in the world. These grants will help restore and protect longleaf pine habitats, supporting wildlife and the communities that depend on thriving forests. Thanks to the incredible support from the Bezos Earth Fund and other key partners, these grants will contribute to the America's Longleaf Restoration Initiative's goal to restore 8 million acres of this precious ecosystem, benefiting species like the gopher tortoise, red-cockaded woodpecker and eastern indigo snake. A special thank you to our partners that make wildlife conservation possible, including: USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service, USDA Forest Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), International Paper’s Forestland Stewards Partnership, Southern Company, United States Department of Defense, The Orton Foundation (an affiliate of the Moore Charitable Foundation), Bezos Earth Fund and Energy Transfer. 📷: Longleaf pines in Croatan National Forest #longleaf #conservation #tree #wildlife #climate #forest

Private landowners are responsible for the use and management of more than two-thirds of our nation’s land, including some of the most important fish and wildlife habitats in the United States. Every year, farmers, ranchers, foresters, and other landowners voluntarily participate in federal Farm Bill conservation programs designed to address some of the nation’s most pressing conservation issues. That’s why we’re offering up to $15 million in grant funding for projects that emphasize regenerative agriculture practices while providing important social and economic benefits to agricultural producers. Together, we can enhance wildlife habitat, soil health, water conservation and quality, and carbon storage on working lands.
