I'm grateful for the time I was able to spend this week at the National Association of Fellowships Advisors Graduate Advisor Workshop held at Virginia Commonwealth University. Connecting with fellow grad advisors is always such a valuable experience, and I am taking away many new insights and ideas from our time together. Huge thanks to Meredith Raucher Sisson, Ph.D. and Erin Brown, PhD for being such great hosts at VCU!

We had the pleasure of welcoming the National Association of Fellowships Advisors (NAFA) to Bratislava yesterday! 🚍 The meeting kicked off with a warm welcome from Comenius University’s Vice-Rector for International Relations Jozef Tancer, Fulbright Slovakia's Executive Director Lydia Tobiasova, and NAFA Prestigious Scholarship Advisor at UC Davis Scott Palmer. We presented the Fulbright opportunities available for U.S. candidates in Slovakia, where they can teach, study, conduct research, or assist with teaching English. These programs provide a unique opportunity for students and scholars to immerse themselves in Slovak culture, enhance their academic and professional expertise, and build international connections. Our current grantees, U.S. Student Caleb Ranum and English Teaching Assistant Sianna S. shared their authentic experiences at Slovak institutions, offering NAFA members a glimpse into the daily lives of Americans on Fulbright scholarships in Slovakia. Executive Director of SAIA, n. o. (Slovak Academic Information Agency) - Michal Fedák gave an insightful overview of higher education in Slovakia, paving the way for engaging discussions with representatives from Comenius University – Head of Erasmus office Milan R., Slovenská technická univerzita v Bratislave – Vice-Rector Lubica Vitkova and the University of Economics in Bratislava – Vice-Rector Paula Puskarova. Their presentations highlighted the diverse educational opportunities and potential for collaboration. A special shoutout to Comenius University in Bratislava / Univerzita Komenského v Bratislave for graciously hosting the meeting. Last month, my vision of creating and hosting a regional conference for fellowship advising colleagues was realized after months of planning. This was a first for me, but definitely not a last!
