With profound sadness, we bid farewell to William “Bill” Aiken, CPA, a lifetime member of NABA Inc. and the creator of NABA's first logo. Bill's legacy with NABA is deeply cherished, and his contributions have left an indelible mark on our community. As the second Chairman of the Board of Directors in 1971, who went on to serve again from 1983 - 84, Bill's leadership and dedication were instrumental in shaping NABA's path toward becoming a renowned national organization. Bill was among the pioneering Black auditors hired by Arthur Young, now known as EY, making him a trailblazer in his own right. As the first in his family to attend college, he set a powerful example of perseverance and excellence. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Bill was a CPA and a longtime mentor who touched the lives of many with his wisdom and guidance. His mentorship and support helped countless individuals achieve their dreams, embodying the essence of NABA's mission. Our hearts go out to Bill's family, friends, and all who were fortunate to know him. His legacy will continue to inspire and guide us as we carry forward the values and vision in which he so passionately believed. NABA's first logo depicted strong, clasped, vertically positioned hands within an unbroken circle. The trademarked logo had been a consistent symbol of NABA's mission for over 40 years, with a minor update in 1993 to include the motto "Lifting As We Climb." Rest in peace, Bill. You will be deeply missed, and your spirit and contributions live on in the heart of NABA Nation.

McConnell Jones, a full-service CPA firm, is a proud member of the Diverse Organization of Firms #DOF, an affiliate organization of NABA INC.. Last month, #MJ‘s Consulting and Risk Advisory Partner-in-Charge and former DOF chairman, Odysseus Lanier, and Managing Partner, Ira Wayne McConnell, had the opportunity to exhibit at the NABA 2024 FLOW Convention on DOF Row. While at the convention, our partners had the distinct pleasure of getting to connect with so many inspiring individuals, especially those from Grambling State University, where Wayne completed his undergraduate degree. They had the opportunity to meet with fellow GSU alumni, Edgartt Melton, PMP, CISA, CRISC, CFE, CSM, founder and CEO of 7th Echelon, who graduated from GSU in 1997 with a B.S. in Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement Administration. He also had an exhibit on DOF Row at the conference. Also in attendance was Felicia Henry-Payne, CIA, Financial Services Consulting Senior Manager at EY, who graduated with a B.S. in Accounting and Business Administration and Management. She has also been on the board of the university's College of Business Executive Advisory Board since 2019. Dr. Derrick V. Warren, the esteemed Dean of the College of Business at Grambling State University since August 2023, was in attendance at the conference and was joined by several of his students that dropped by the #MJ kiosk on DOF Row to visit. Shanda Eusebe, King Davis, Jau'Kizah Rogers, Kaylah Harris, Sinaya Gaston, Shanilka George, and O'deia Dyer joined us to take a few pictures. As a firm that is committed to supporting the next generation of accounting professionals, it was an incredibly rewarding experience getting to meet such accomplished alumni, current students, and individuals dedicated to bringing up future business leaders. At McConnell Jones, fostering these relationships is key to our commitment to diversity and excellence in the field.
