Providing evidence-based nursing education, creating scientific knowledge, and leading excellence in practice.
About us
Uncover your calling in one of the country’s leading nursing schools. Our programs are taught by skilled, research-helming educators and provide access to interprofessional and clinical opportunities found nowhere else in the state. As the country’s second-oldest nursing school, the Medical University of South Carolina’s College of Nursing evolves with the profession. Looking ahead to adapt how we train the next generation of RNs, nurse practitioners, researchers and leaders, we consider our students’ greater impact, both through the care they’ll provide and how their skills close the existing healthcare gap. Today, that progress materializes as results-driven online learning, faculty-led palliative care training across all programs, engaging clinical opportunities and collaborative research with other MUSC colleges. MUSC is the only integrated, academic health sciences center in South Carolina. Our college also has a strong nursing research program, which ranks in the top 30 of funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Our researchers proudly contribute through collaborations with colleagues across MUSC’s campus. We’re recognized as one of the top 100 universities in the country for funding. In a world of constant change, we skillfully prepare our students for the ever-evolving role of a nurse, so they can change what’s possible in the lives of their patients and the populations they serve. Our college educates more than 600 students each year, and they go on to earn baccalaureate, master’s, and doctoral degrees. No matter your career stage, see how you can foster the future of the nursing profession and join the next generation of nurse leaders.

#TBT This summer, we were thrilled to welcome a special guest to campus: Doug Chamberlin, grandnephew of MUSC College of Nursing’s first Dean, Ruth Chamberlin. A visionary leader, Dean Chamberlin oversaw a transformative time at the college, including the establishment of a four-year collegiate program, which would confer the Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree and the opening of its flagship building at 99 Jonathan Lucas Street in 1956. Fun fact: Dean Chamberlin authored the definitive history of the college, The School of Nursing of the Medical College of South Carolina: Its Story, and her grandnephew inherited the writing gene: he’s a well-known screenwriter (including Toy Story 2!). CON recently piloted an innovative clinical group assignment and collaboration between MedSurg I faculty and the Simulation Program. Tasked with creating an educational skills kit related to specific nursing topics utilizing 3D printing technology and an accompanying educational video, ABSN students in MedSurg I let their expertise and creativity shine while teaching complicated nursing concepts to their peers. “This pilot assignment exceeded our expectations, exemplifying the innovative outcomes when simulation faculty and course faculty collaborate to optimize university resources,” said Dr. Dawn Terzulli, a CON instructor. “The students took the assignment to an exciting level with such creative 3D printed deliverables and palpable classroom engagement during the activity. It was truly fulfilling to see each group actively share their work with such enthusiasm. Big high five to our students and a huge thank you to our library partners.” #MUSCNursing #CONStrong #ABSN #RN #Innovation

Welcome to CON! What an incredible day hosting students from the Orangeburg High School for Health Professions! To get a taste of the undergraduate nursing school experience, they took part in a skills station, high and low fidelity simulations, and a shadow experience at Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital. Along the way they had the opportunity to learn more about the nursing profession from a few of our engaging faculty and MUSC Health nurses, who love to inspire the next generation. A special thank you to Dean Cathy Durham for fostering this partnership and initiating this successful visit. Come back soon! #muscnursing #CONStrong #ABSN #BSN #nursingschool #nursestudent #nurselife
